Words That Sting, by John Stange, is an easy read that offers very practical direction on the subject of criticism. If you're facing a little bit of criticism or tons of criticism, you will find this book extremely helpful. I will be using this book now, and in the future, as a reference when I need a reminder of how to respond to my critics. But here's a warning: I not only saw how to handle my critics on the pages of this book, I was also reminded that at times I am the critic. Anytime a book shows me both sides of a "critical" issue, it's a winner. That's what this book is!

Oh...just one criticism : ) The author points out that he and his wife have taught their children to say "Mr" and "Mrs" when addressing adults. Being a Southerner, I hope they will also be sure to instill "Sir" and "Ma'am". Sorry....I guess I'm a "recovering" critic.

Thanks for a great book!

Pretty good quick read on how to respond to criticism as Christ would. It's funny how this is a book on criticism and now Amazon wants me critique this book lol. He shares a good story about doing things in your own timing in this book.

We all think when someone criticizes us we sre on the wrong. But John puts things in a biblical view and how to grow from it. Encouraging yet a simple read that I can pull out to read to keep doing things for Jesus and His kingdom. I recommend.

Bullies. Trolls. Plain old negative folks. We all encounter criticism from others. In our society driven by social media where people have the means to speak their mind, they often do so without regard to anyone else’s feelings.

As an author, I’ve struggled with the sting of negative comments on my blog, criticisms of my content, and negative book reviews. I’ve been on the brink of giving up because of it. I know these people are just bullies, but it still hurts. That’s why I sought out a book that would help shape my perspective.

Words that Sting by John Strange offers a series of principles based on how Jesus dealt with his critics—and he had many who were constantly trying to trap him or plot to kill him. The author draws upon Mark 2 and comes up with application points to help us deal with criticism like Jesus.

Being a Christian, I really needed to read this. My life was wrought with both positive and negative criticism. Because of this I agreed with everything that was laid out before me because I had no defense mechanism in my arsenal. John Stange wrote a book that lays everything out easily. It opened my heart and mind in changing my approach to others who might try to shake my foundation, giving the Lord all the glory. Like any student of Christianity, I learned something valuable here. A definite recommendation

This was a great read! The reason it was is because of John's grasp of the subject matter and his writing style. I love reading books that use personal stories to illustrate the main points. John does this in every chapter and it really brings the points to life and helps the reader apply them. I highly recommend this book to anyone because we all deal with criticism in some form or fashion and to differing degrees. Plus, the best example of handling criticism we can look to is Jesus because he handled it to perfection. Great job, John!

The e-book, Words That Sting, by John Stange, was short and to-the-point. I gave four stars precisely because the author addressed the subject of criticism, especially within the church body, in a practical way applying Scripture with common sense. The author, a pastor with real life experience with criticism, acknowledges the obvious fact that churches contain people who are difficult to please, and Stange gives steps, according to Scripture, on how to handle these difficult people without being overly theological. I would recommend this book for pastors and their families who are just starting out in the ministry.

No matter where you go or what you do in life, you won't please everyone. Dealing with criticism, especially when unwarranted, is difficult. By using the New Testament examples of our Savior, we have directions how we should behave in confrontational situations. A good book that I recommend to others.

I struggle with reading and have a passion to learn how I can better follow the example of Jesus. It is a very readable short book - and if you want to skip to the back, there is a neat six point summary!!
