Lady Doctor Wyre: A Jane Austen Space Opera Kindle Edition
A mash-up of Jane Austen and Firefly, this series puts ladies in charge--in space. If you love a Regency romp and space opera, join Lady Wyre on her adventures.
Hiding in the backwards colony of Americus for seven years is preferable to even one day of torture in the Tower of Londonium. Without her research or the simplest of luxuries, Lady Wyre bides her time by dallying with the safe and honorable Sheriff Gilead Masters.
Until her other lover, the dashing assassin Lord Sigmund Regret, arrives for their yearly solstice interlude a few days early.
While she's trying to keep her two men from each other's throats, the colony's rebellion against Britannia becomes more volatile. Her not-so-safe sheriff reveals a secret past that drags her straight back into the dangerous chess game of politics. With the Queen's Ravens closing in, Charlotte wearies of her life on the run. She fires a warning shot across Britannia's bow.
Cease hunting Lady Doctor Wyre--or lose the technological power the Crown holds so dear. Forever.
Alas, Dear Reader, her two lovers may ruin her perfect plan by killing each other.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2019Given I love science fiction, Jane Austen and gender role subversions, there was little chance that I wouldn't enjoy this but it's a great fun romp with some great hay rolls.
Well worth a read and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 August 2019I bought these books from Amazon when first released. Absolutely loved it, and the follow up
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 August 2019I was lucky enough to get a free copy of this story ! It’s written really so well as this author writes amazingly ! It’s a completely different story to anything I’ve read before and the mash up of a kind of pride a and prejudice type time with space is so different and unique. If you like pride and prejudice, space and RH then I would recommend this series, it isn’t my favourite genre but it is an interesting read !
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2019I really enjoyed this, I wasn’t sure space and period drama would mix, but it did surprisingly well. There was lots of excitement from the beginning, I love Charlie she’s a really complex lady who is clever enough to be her own hero, although she enjoyed the help of Sig and Gil. I loved both Sig & Gil, two very different men both bringing something to the table. Fast paced with plenty going on I thoroughly enjoyed this and I’m excited to read what they get up to in the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful series from Joely Sue Burkhart
I am a huge fan of Ms. Burkhart’s writing and this series is no different. She is able to bring about complex characters and worlds in such short order and she’s done it again with Lady Doctor Wyre. If you’ve only read TVQ, this is a totally different world - more reminiscent of Firefly or Killjoys - with a female dominated society and some slight steampunk elements. The stories are slow burn and light on the steamy scenes, definitely more tame than either TVQ or the Connaghers. However, the story arc is so strong this isn’t a missing element in my opinion. If you love other stories by her or if you love the strong females and quick wit of Joss Whedon you should check out this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Swashbuckling Space Adventure, Hot Trio of Lovers, and Some Good Twists
A space Regency? Of all the fun mash ups! Added to that this lady is a scientist and she's in charge of this space caper.
For seven years, Lady Charlotte Wyre has been hiding on Americus, the planet that broke free of Britannia's rule. She was once the Queen's physician and responsible for the deadly might of the Britannia empire that continues to spread through the galaxy. One world after another falls and is taken into the empire. Charlotte holds too many secrets the queen can't have anyone knowing not to mention any other sovereign nation that has the Lady Doctor has a decided advantage. So she bides her time under the pretext that everyone thinks she's dead, but it's only a matter of time before a bounty hunter or the Queen's Ravens track her her down.
In her seven year exile, Charlotte has fallen for straight arrow sheriff, Gilead Masters. Gil is all that is good and honorable. He wants to marry her, but he has no idea about the things she has done and who she really is which knowing her can get him killed. She has to break both their hearts and let him go. Then there is her shadowy assassin Lord Regret who comes to her once a year for only what she can give him. They share a bond and each other's secrets. She can't go with Regret either. But, while Charlotte hides, people and events are transpiring around her and she finds herself needing a plan to survive and keep the men she loves out of danger.
Lady Doctor Wyre is the first in a series entitled Jane Austen Space Opera. Do not let that series title fool you. There is no Jane Austen here. However, there is a spicy Regency space-age adventure. It's fun that Regency manners are paired with nanobots and lasers with the gals having the upper hand. The book is light in tone and meant for sheer entertainment. The ships are all he's, the pirate captains are she's. Lady Wyre is a brilliant put together scientist and aristocrat who will have her cake and eat it to with Gil and Regret so different and exciting in their own ways.
The book was fun and I enjoyed it. It felt like it could have done with a longer page count to develop the story more. There is a novel's worth of backstory given in a few short chapters. That said, I'll give the author much credit for saying a lot with that little. But, it does seem to skim across the surface so one must be in the right mood. It has a bit of spice, a few action spots, a couple clever twists, and leaves things in a happy for now leading into the next book.
I can recommend it for those who want something light, spicy, and quick with the quirky and engaging backdrop of Regency in space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!
Gotta have her tea! I really loved this book. Kind of a Victorian Space Opera feel to it. A great mix. The female MC is a strong character wanting to just be herself and live life. She has some regrets but never her men. Definite must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second in series
I don't know what it is about this story but I'm hooked. It's regency, quirky, sci-fi, and a whole lot of oddities. Old meets new and for how the matriarch aspect of it is a nice change, I have enjoyed Lady Wyre's character. I do enjoy Jane Austen and several of that romance type so if you enjoy Sense and Sensibility then I recommend this series. I cannot wait to read the next. I will be sad when her story ends.
