Immortal Plague: An Adventure Thriller (Judas Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition
William Barrow carries a dark secret.
An archivist for the Smithsonian Institute and a part-time operative for the CIA, no one would ever suspect the handsome 'thirty-ish' William is the most reviled human being ever to walk the earth.
But long ago, William Barrow had another name…one that is synonymous with shame and betrayal: Judas Iscariot.
Forced to walk the earth as a cursed immortal, William/Judas is on a quest to reclaim the thirty silver shekels paid to him in exchange for Jesus Christ.
Twenty-one coins have now been recovered—thanks in large part to the help from his latest son, the esteemed Georgetown University history professor, Alistair Barrow.
Ever hopeful the complete coin collection will buy him a full pardon from God and end his banishment from heaven, William plans to visit a remote village deep within Iran’s Alborz Mountains to retrieve 'silver coin number twenty-two'.
But the CIA has a different objective for this trip, one that pits both father and son against an unscrupulous Russian billionaire searching for something else that’s just as precious within the ancient mountains of Iran.
Something that threatens peace in the modern world if William and Alistair fail to reach it first.
What Readers are saying:
★★★★★ “This book was a fantastic mix of religious belief and fantastical adventure. Though tongue-in-cheek from the beginning, Aiden James pulls together a very fast-paced read. I thoroughly enjoyed this rendition of the Judas legend, and cannot wait to read the next book.” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “What an amazing story! Powerful story and everything you could hope for on the trail of redemption for Judas himself.” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “Immortal Plague is the best of the genre I’ve read. An excellent adventure story, filled with villains, complications, and marvels. I was reminded of the Indiana Jones series and the Uncharted video games with Nathan Drake. Highly recommended.” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “William Barrow is a part time CIA agent and an archivist for the Smithsoniain Institute. But who is he really? He is a man who is doomed to walk the earth until he finds 30 pieces of silver. Yes, William is none other then Judas Iscariot the betrayer of Jesus. Will he be able to find coin number 22 (he has already found 21 so far)? There are a variety of twists, turns, surprises and subplots in the story to keep the story moving and you turning pages. You will be pulled into the story right from the start as Aiden James has a way of doing just that. You will not be disappointed.” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “Great book, exciting adventure! I started reading this story with no intention of liking Judas, the man that is believed to have betrayed Jesus, but I wanted insight into what could have caused him to do such a dreadful thing. Soon, I found myself rooting for him to find the missing ‘blood coins’ to redeem his life and pay his penance for his sins. He was remorseful, regretful, and determined to prove his devotion to make up for his weakness by collecting the coins that he was paid to betray Jesus. As an immortal, it’s his destiny to search the world until every single cursed coin is accounted for, so that he can present the coins as proof of his remorse and faith and hope for forgiveness. It actually turned out to be a great story, full of great characters, humor, love, friendship, and it was well worth the time it took to read it. I look forward to the other books in this series!” —Amazon review

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 June 2012The description of this book as seen on Amazon is very good so i doubt i could add anything further without giving the game away.I thouroughly enjoyed the story of Judas Iscariot still searching for his 30 pieces of gold 2000 years after the death of Jesus Christ. We must remember this is pure fantasy made up by the author but injected with actual historical events and information that makes it so believable.
I already have the next book in the series 'Riegn of coins' so i can't wait to dive in to that straight away. The character of Willaim 'Judas' Barrow is very likeable with a sometimes sarcastic sense of humour that comes from living for over 2000 years and having seen and done things we can only imagine.
I give this book 5* because it is fast paced, fun, enjoyable and a bit different.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 November 2012I really enjoyed the way all the Biblical elements were handled in this story, it was interesting. The story held my attention fairly well, but I was a bit disappointed that the story was more about an obsessive billionaire than about the search for the coins. I am quite happy to enjoy the fantastical, but found their were too many fantastic happenings for me to truly rate this book. I liked the main character, but again found his intense concern for his son irritating. I know in real life one would be concerned, but I felt this concern was voiced too often. An ok read, but I am not sure that I will read the next in the series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 November 2012This was my first Kindle book, great choice, easy read and short. A lovely page turner to fall asleep to and the new Kindle Fire HD makes that oh so easy.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 July 2015A book to be really enjoyed. I enjoyed it very much and think that you will to. Let's hope so
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 January 2016Judas Iscariot, the great betrayer, here in the modern world. A man cursed by God to live forever, for his part in the betrayal and eventual murder of his only son. He has spent the last Two thousand years collecting the thirty silver Roman coins, his reward for betraying his one time friend in the hope that God will forgive him, lift the curse and allow Judas to finally die.
It's not preachy or overtly religious but it is entertaining and thought provoking.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent and compelling story
First, let me say I really enjoyed this story, with its intriguing character as the hero.
However...I once read somewhere that a good story should have only one or two "stretches" of the imagination. This story has way too many and totally breaks that rule, and very soon becomes a bit 'over the top', but it somehow managed to retain my attention and interest anyway.
I would like to see more of this hero's adventures, but with less of the fantastic stretches of credibility that were overly done in the first book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Eine Rarität...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a wonderful lesson for us all
This book is a wonderful lesson for us all. Judas is currently immortal because of his sin and works tirelessly to remove this burden. How difficult would it be for any of us to have millennium to make things right.
The journey is spell binding and relevant to each of us. Imagine losing friends and loved ones again and again. How heart wrenching that must be, and yet God seems to smile upon Judas to let him know he is not forgotten.
This is a wonderful read that takes you through time and places you can only imagine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read
Very imaginative story. Different than I expected. Easy to read, good characters. Liked it so much that
I purchased Book 2 as soon as I finished reading this one. This author has quite the list of books and I'm
looking forward to trying out most of them.

Book Review: Plague Of Coins
by Aiden James

Writing Style - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good)
The first-person narrative grabs you and heaves you into this story. It is one of the best examples of first-person I have seen recently.
The dialogue is excellent and the structure of the writing gives this book an excellent pace, keeping you engrossed in the story which you initially think will be the secondary plot to the book.
Character Development - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good)
All of these characters are reasonably believable. The good guys and bad guys alike are well-drawn and easy to visualise in the various predicaments and events. I think that, for me personally, the only glitch to the character development is the fact that the love interest goes in a stranger direction than anticipated. Although at the end, this is a more acceptable relationship, following the events of the story, there seems to be little reason for the initial attraction between these two characters.
Equally, I thought that - on occasion - reactions by the characters to events around them were too calm.
Descriptive - 4.5/5.0 (Excellent)
The descriptive in this work is excellent and very detailed throughout. Everything is considered and mapped out carefully, giving the reader a full picture of everything around the main characters, and all of the events (in sometimes gory detail).
The locations are vivid and beautifully written and even the lesser characters come to life easily.
Language & Grammar - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding)
Everything is written with careful precision and the language is well chosen to fit into the context of the book. Although the main character uses his fair share of expletives (which is a little disconcerting when you consider his life-mission) there is a high level of tongue-in-cheek humour associated with almost all of the narrative.
This gives the whole work a light, refreshing edge, which in turn makes it an easy-going read.
Plot - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good) - MINOR SPOILERS
This is a cleverly wound tale, based around a character that turns out to be the immortal Judas Iscariot, cursed to remain on earth in search of his 30 pieces of silver, which have been distributed around the globe, seemingly at random.
Enter the CIA, who have recruited his assistance in the past (though they do not know his identity, or that he is immortal). They discover his upcoming excursion into Iran and `ask' him to check out the goings-on around an excavation in the mountains near Tehran.
Along with his son (an aging man who he introduces as his father), a native American woman, and a CIA agent, off they go to Iran.
During the trip, everything from spying and torture, through to the discovery of the Garden of Eden and an invasion of said garden by Russian mercenaries, takes the reader through to what promises to be a grandstand finish, only for the author to then resume the original plot and take the reader through a whole new story element.
All of this is expertly done by a combination of strong writing and a clever storyline and sub-plot combination.
Perhaps the only `minor' negative for me, was that there was a little too much acceptance of who the main character really was, and I felt that the female character learns his identity far too easily and too early in the book, which removes a lot of the edge from the scene in the trailer later on.
General - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good)
This is a well-written, tightly woven story with good characters and a nicely built plot. Perhaps there were minor places where there could have been a little more drama, and perhaps other places where the chance to provide a darker scene or two was overlooked, but this is a good read and thoroughly enjoyable.
The language (on occasions) is perhaps a little choice, and may put some readers off, but really you should try not to let it. This is one of those stories where you really do have to keep going and I'm sure you will agree it was worth it when you reach the end.
More of this series is promised, and I greatly look forward to them.
4 Stars. Highly recommended.
