4.3 out of 5 stars 34 ratings

When the senator said he’d send an aide to draft a counter to the proposed pipeline that would bisect his ranch, the last thing Mark expected…was Lana.

The woman who arrives from Washington knows things he’s certain aren’t a matter of public record.

The pull to her is stronger than he’d like and for the first time in years he’s glimpsed a second chance at happiness.

Lana’s past is shadowy, something Mark suspects is to blame for her obsession with security and the fact she’s always looking over her shoulder. He wonders if it’s the reason she wants to leave D.C.

When a tragic accident results in a terrible misunderstanding, both of their lives are torn apart. Mark realizes the hard way that there are people who don’t want them together.
Yet is it possible the biggest obstacle between him and happiness…is himself?

Erin loves a strong, snarky heroine and a gooey cinnamon roll hero. You'll find some grumpy/sunshines, dominant alphas, teddy bears, courage, strength and grit. Her characters have seen a bit of life and carry their burdens with them, and their real-to-life struggles require happily-ever-afters, since real life has enough sorrow.

Dive in with The Atholtons, the first series, and continue right on through the Men of the First Brigade, because the Wolf Mountain Ranchers make an appearance in late September of 2023.

I struggled to connect with the story and characters at first. when I got into it i didn't want to put it down. I needed to know what happened next. It's a great small town country romance with twists and turns throughout. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

This is Book 1 in the Wolf Mountain Ranger Series.

The story follows and is older and wiser(?) Lana returning home to help fight a pipeline proposal that threatens Marks livelihood, but also the entire area.

First of all, it is incredibly refreshing to read about characters that are older, so are more relatable (I'm closer to 40 than 21 now!)

I absolutely love Lana, she is embodies strength, and I loved getting to know her and see her grow as a character!

Mark... Now Mark was an interesting character. There were times I loved him, and other times, I was shrieking at my reader because he just wasn't thinking! By the end of the book, though, he had redeemed himself.

I absolutely love Erin's style of writing and how she also gives us a glimpse into the Cowboy World, which, as a Brit, is something I won't ever see!

The story is definitely more 'grown up' than other Cowboy Romances, but this was and is part of the appeal - older doesn't always mean wiser for some people 😆.

It's fun, gripping, and utterly all consuming - I literally read this entire book in a day.

If you love Cowboy Romances, then you definitely need to read this book just be prepared to go out and buy the rest of the series like I did 😆

Now this is not your typical cowboy romance book. This is an age gap, single dad, enemies to lovers, secret identity book, with a good amount of chemisty and tension.

Did I basically read the whole thing in a day? Yes, I did!

This book pulls you in from the get go, when our younger FMC (Lana) struts in all sassy and confident and our older MMC (Mark) doesn't know what's about to hit him.

Lana has a dark past, but the one constant in her life has always been Mark. So after leaving her ex in the past where he belongs, she is out to get her man after holding a torch for him for many years.

Mark has not exactly had it easy either as a single dad who had to work hard to keep his ranch successful while caring for his sons.

Now, I won't lie and say this book is a light read, because it is not. It is quite a hefty book with some heavy topics... BUT, I can tell you that the read is worth it!

An unexpected surprise for a cowboy romance was the touch of suspense in the book when Lana's past comes knocking, but that definitely pulls you in even more. This book is filled with tension, suspense, chemisty and enough twists to do your head in😅 Just as you think you have it figured out, something else pops up that leaves you baffled.

Despite some of the triggers in this book, I honestly enjoyed the read and will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

Well written story pacing draws you into the characters. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series

Lana had crushed hard on Mark but he kept her at a distance, feeling he knew her before. But when her past comes for her, the twists and turns will have you hooked, will Mark and Lana get their HEA? Well written the story is engaging, steamy, desires, twists and more!

If you like a good age gap, single dad, cowboy/ranch romance with a bit of spice thrown in and a few spanners in the world to say the least then this book is for you!

It’s not a short book by any stretch of the imagination and it did take me a couple of weeks to read due to just life etc but if I had the time I would have devoured it. Really well written & I really liked the characters, they were likeable, relatable & nice people.

My only gripe was the miscommunication. I wanted to scream at the fmc & mmc to just bloody talk to each other! 😂

There are some trigger warnings needed for insinuated & references to past sexual abuse & trauma.

Overall this was a really enjoyable book, it was a cosy read perfect to wrap up in a blanket with some candles and a hot drink and just enjoy. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s a fan of romance with a sprinkling spice. 🌶️

    ‼️ POSSIBLE SPOILERS‼️

Wow! This book was a rollercoaster but I enjoyed it!
With tropes including age gap, second chance, rivals to lovers & single dad - I was obsessed 😍

I absolutely Mark and Lana’s story, seeing their second chance at love was fantastic!
I loved how when they met they immediately had a connection and were trying to figure out how they knew each other.

It felt so refreshing to read a book with older characters as I’m so used to reading books with younger main characters.

Mark’s sons, Jack and Jon, were just the sweetest. I loved getting to know them.

I don’t know if it was just me but i thought it was a bit all over the place, I had to keep skipping back to make sure I was keeping up with what was happening!

There was so much drama in this book, our dear Lana went through an awful lot!
I found myself unable to put the book down!

Can’t wait to read book 2!

This is the first time I have read any of Erin’s book and it’s not the usual style I go for. However this book had me gripped. Cowboys, love story, twists and turn and drama.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next one!

This book takes you on an emotional roller-coaster but not just with the main characters but also the supporting ones. This book is about two people who lost each other, but only one knows the truth as to why and what happened. They also have trust and shame issues, but it's time to face reality. But reality means ripping the bandaid off and looking at yourself also. There is a touch of stalking and SA, but it's written well to where it's just mentioned and no true details. So if you have those triggers, this book talks about them, but it's not a big mention.

𝐈 am truly amazed by the author's writing style. The way she unravels a story, leaving no stone unturned, is truly impressive. Her dedication to creating rich and complex characters with fascinating stories that tug at your heartstrings is just incredible.

𝐈𝐧 this first book, Lana and Mark navigate through obstacles to find their happy ending. Lana is someone from Mark's past, she harbors deep feelings for him despite his lack of memory of her. As their story unfolds, Lana is faced with the dilemma of revealing the truth to Mark before things get messy. The intense and well-crafted rift between the characters kept me hooked.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 main characters' emotional baggage made it uncertain whether they could truly forgive and forget. It was very engaging. For fans of angsty stories and cowboy romance, this book is a must-read. The book as a whole offers a glimpse into the lives of various characters, leaving me eager to go back and read the next book in the series!

Erin Fitzgerald brings this story to life with excellent character depth and development, the right amount of suspense and chemistry between Mark and Lana that absolutely sizzles in romantic scenes that are loaded with hot details but kept classy. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to move on to the second story in the series.
