Rediscovering Life: Awaken to Reality Kindle Edition
Anthony De Mello was one of the most important spiritual writers of the 20th century. Since his death in 1987, his stature has only increased. His books, including Song of the Bird, Sadhana, and the international bestselling Awareness are considered by many to be some of the most influential spiritual teachings of the last 50 years.
Now, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his passing, Image Books is proud to present what may very well prove to be the last published work of this beloved spiritual teacher. Based on a lecture given just months before his death, Rediscovering Life invites us to unlock the deeper meaning of our lives. By becoming aware of the circuitous and habitual nature of our limiting thoughts, we can find simple solutions that will release us from feelings of isolation, anger, sadness and depression. In short, De Mello offers us a new way to look at the world and God that will transform our lives.
Rediscovering Life is a timeless and compassionate book that will awaken you to the beauty of human experience and increase your ability to see God in all things.

About the author

ANTHONY DE MELLO was a Jesuit priest born in Bombay, India in 1931. He is widely known for his ground-breaking and enduring work that integrates western and eastern spirituality. De Mello is the author of the bestselling masterpiece, Awareness, along with 11 other books that have been translated into 21 languages and have sold more than 2 million worldwide.
De Mello’s most recent book, Stop Fixing Yourself / Wake Up! All is Well centers on his core assertion that you and I are OK exactly as we are. We are not a problem to be solved, nor is there anything we need to fix in ourselves. It is enough for us to simply be watchful and awake. By simply being aware, all that seems false and neurotic in us will drop, and our eyes will open to the reality of joy surrounding us.
His body of work continues to have impact beyond his untimely death in 1987, influencing acclaimed spiritual teachers such as Rhonda Byrne, Eckhart Tolle, Neil Strauss, Adyashanti, Thomas Moore, and Paulo Coelho.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 October 2016Simply brilliant - easy to read, as it is a transcript of a lecture Tony de Mello gave towards the end of his life, it reads as if you are just listening to him talk.
The wisdom is profound. I agree this book is a great companion to his books Awareness & The Way to Love which are my other two fav's of his.
This is a short but very sweet book!
here are a few little extracts that particularly resonated for me:
"It's very hard to define maturity, but I've come up with a fairly workable definition: Maturity is when you no longer blame anyone. You don't blame others, you don't blame yourself. You see what's wrong, and you set about remedying it. That's one pretty good sign of maturity."
"Maybe someone did wrong. But look, could you understand them? Because that's what love is all about, see. Love is not blaming others. Love is not judging others. Love is not condemning others. Love is understanding. Can you understand where they came from? Can you understand how there's so little malice there, and so much ignorance? And so much goodwill, and so much helplessness, and so much programming, and so much confusion, and so much fear. Have you ever paused to understand this? Oh, then you'll understand what it means to love."
when "you're upset, this isn't coming from the other person, it isn't coming from you; it's coming from your programming. Oh, I see. All of a sudden there's perspective. There's understanding."
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 October 2012This book is a transcript of a retreat or workshop that Mr de Mello presented shortly before his death. It is excellent and is the sort of presentation that one is likely to read many times over the course of one's life. It is, as another reviewer has said, a clear revelation of how we have been taught to be unhappy, by being conditioned to react in a negative and often distressing way to people and events in our daily life. Fundamentally this is all based upon craving and attachment and to resistance and aversion, perhaps best exemplified by our desire for approval or, at the very least, for the avoidance of disapproval.
The book is a very effective accompaniment to two other superb books by the same author - 1) Awareness and 2) The Way To Love. It is a must-read!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 August 2012This is one of those precious books invaluable to anyone who really wants to see life as it is. To make you aware of how indoctrinated you are. How brainwashed. And how to free yourself of all this brainwashing. How to come back in tune with life as it really is. Strong stuff!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2020It's an interesting format, like an interview transcript. But it works. Some great ideas and concepts about life. I just wish I'll have the courage to pause and reflect on it, instead of rushing on to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 June 2018One of the most inspiring books I have ever read. It has life changing moments and practical ideas on how to apply them to everyday life.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to find spiritual fulfilment in this day and age.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 November 2014Tony never fails to deliver the goods, I already had most of his books and this one was no exception. A truly brilliant man. To the one person who was "really disappointed" and said "it's all covered in the book awareness", all I can say is that he clearly missed the whole point of this book which is not covered at all in Awareness!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2018The first of his books I’ve read and I loved it. Its simplicity, its directness and its humour. Sums up the spiritual journey in just a few words. Priceless.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2019mandatory read. beautifully written.

Anthony de Mello is a tell it like it is authentic Spiritual guide. I delightfully keep reading this book to deepen my understanding of the many truths he provides. A simple read, that is deeply felt for those who are on the Spiritual Path and are ready to hear the Truth.
