Enjoyed reading every word. Not my usual read but definitely one I’d recommend. Even celebrated a few of the days myself. Excited to read the second part.Completely agree with the fact of having moments of laughing out loud and looking like a nutter- but that’s what I’ve loved about it.Thank you x

I admired the idea and concept of George's first book and decided to give this a punt. It's pretty poorly written in all honesty and I really wondered if I was going to get through the whole thing. Saying that I did find myself genuinely laughing out loud throughout, and managed to get to the end. I was amazed that the author managed to keep up his momentum with his celebrations; I would have lost interest after about a week. I did feel a bit sorry for his wife, who is painted a little bit like the wicked witch throughout the book.

This is a very easy read. George is an ideas man and an entertainer, as opposed to a great author. I really really don't think there is enough mileage left in it for a second book.

This guy is crude but really funny and it is obvious a shed low of research has gone into this book.

Having read Free country, I downloaded this book. I had seen it listed before on Amazon but the title and the picture on the front hadn't appealed but was now willing give it the benefit of the doubt. I enjoyed the book but I didn't find it as amusing as Free Country. It seemed the author wasn't convinced of the project till part way through the challenge and I felt this came across in the writing. Then his passion comes through and I found the book more amusing. The book doesn't only cover holidays but covers other subjects. The book was also educational as I learnt a few things along the way. It was heartwarming to read how celebrating all the holidays brought him closer to his family. Although I didn't enjoy this as much as his first book, I'm looking forward to the sequel and perhaps reading about some #microadventures that George and Ben have been on.

I loved this comical and quirky fun-to-read memoir which takes a magnifying glass on the mundane details and minutiae of life that most memoirists try to leave out of a memoir - but I found it very engaging and the reader travels with George as he chooses various weird and whacky named holidays to filter his ordinary daily life around. Some of the holidays were so bonkers I had to google some of them as I thought the author was pulling our legs and making it up - but no, they're all out there as fact! George's writing had me laughing out loud many times with his comical style of writing, and the scene of the pillow fight with his kids is priceless - that has stayed with me and makes me chuckle every time I think of it. He takes the mickey out of himself and life in general and this was a great book to read at night - it certainly gave me an Upsy Daisy feeling the next day! I LOVE photos in books (personally) so I enjoyed the many peppered throughout the book - but I had to change to a tablet to get the photos in glorious technicolour, but it was worth it - even though most of them were of food (actually I've often wondered what people eat for their evening meals so that was an interesting insight for me personally, but then I'm a nosey parker so it was right up my street) .....oh, and I simply must visit Rattery now - I always wondered what sort of place it was myself every time I pass the sign to it on my way to Plymouth!

I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it for anyone in need of a smile or a laugh. Do you think there’s nothing worth celebrating? Well think again as George Mahood has a celebration every day for 6 months! After hearing on the radio that it was ‘Talk like a Pirate Day’ he decided to set himself a celebration challenge. Who knew there was a ‘Dimpled Chad Day’ for example? There were times when his descriptions of the various ‘Days’ had me laughing out loud! I must admit to a snigger on March 9th too. George has a terrific sense of the ridiculous and his humour and warm personality are evident throughout. Read this, you won’t be disappointed.

This book is really fantastic. It not only made a very good read, but is filled with laughter. It grows on to you. It made me search the net daily (while I was reading this book) what that particular day was celebrated for..
It sort of unleashed the child in me too. I have not laughed like this in ages...
I would give 100 stars for this book if permitted.

My boys (7 & 11) loved having me read this book to them. Since they were already familiar with "Free Country" (other cycling travelogues are available), they were thrilled when various characters from the past, such as The Falcon, resurfaced in this book. George is unfailingly creative and never fails to put a humorous twist on even the most mundane of situations. This book is not only funny, but educational and inspiring! What did you do today that was new and different and possibly took you outside of your comfort zone? You can bet George did at least one thing of that sort and probably had a pasty to top it off!

5.0 out of 5 stars Un libro simpatico e leggero
Reviewed in Italy on 21 June 2017

I didn't really know what to expect from this book, even after reading the blurb. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself snorting, giggling and laughing out loud all the way through the book! I love the British sense of humor and this read was just perfect for me, humor wise. There was also space for not so perfect family moments and emotions and it all made me feel part of their lives. I think it's kind of special when someone let's you in on their personal life, it's easier to hide behind fiction. So, thanks for that, George! I got the sequel immediately after finishing and it was just as good. Highly recommend both books.
