Crimzon and Clover V - Killer of Giants (Crimzon and Clover Short Story Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 47 ratings

As with all the Crimzon and Clover tales, this is a short story of about 25 standard book pages.

In this episode, Crimzon and Clover have settled in the mountains of Kar, where King Amothy rules the men, and tribes of savage Karsithian giants roam the peaks. To enlarge their hoard our beloved dragon and his rider have started taking sacks of kingdom jewels for odd jobs here and there. Jobs such as searching out lost trade ships and keeping the Karsithian fighters from harassing the good people of the realm. Things get out of hand after some dwarven miners in Crimzon's employ are killed for digging to near a Karsithian tomb. To make matters worse some strange ghastly thing has started killing the mountain fae and taking over the minds of the Kar.

Crimzon's anger, and Clover's wit will be pitted against teams of giant warriors, and a creature that just might prove to be too much for them to handle.

M. R. Mathias cares for his wife, a Breast Cancer Warrior who has Parkinson's. After raising two boys into fine young men, they and two dogs split their time between a modest smalltown home, and an apartment built on a floating dock on Lake Ultura (aka Lake Texoma) which foots into an amazing State Park brimming with all sorts of wildlife. Like the wizards of old, he tends to the animals who share the area and inspire the creatures in his works. He likes to fish, write, play guitar, and he builds all sorts of things out of reclaimed wood. He sold over two million eBooks most of them before eBooks were cool. His work is critically acclaimed, and has earned multiple literary awards, including a coveted Locus Poll nomination.

**Featured in the March 2020, Publisher's Weekly article, "As Luck Would Have It"

I read all five of the Crimzon and Clover books over a two day period. While this one wasn't my favorite (parts 1 and 4 were), this was still a satisfying conclusion. It was interesting to see the progression of Clover's character over the course of the series. Starting as a fairly naive young girl in the first story, she has now become a pretty powerful and formidable warrior by the end. Even the King fears her, as she always seems to put him in his place and makes him realize that it is her (and Crimzon) that are actually the rulers of the land. Like the previous chapter, the bulk of the action is featured at the end of the story, as Crimzon and Clover continue to fight the Kars, now aided by a mysterious and powerful "illwraith." The illwraith proves to be a challenging foe, with powers equal to that of Crimzon and Clover. Who will prove the victor? You will have to read it to find out, but you probably already know.

This has been a very entertaining fantasy series and I've really enjoyed the world that M.R. Mathias has created. Through all five books, I couldn't find a single typo or editing error (which is quite common in many Amazon e-books). Good job. I highly recommend this series of books.

I have so enjoyed this series of stories. They are captivating and I am hopelessly addicted to them. Though I am an adult I have suffered seizures which have affected my memory and thinking. These stories have helped me so much. I have read them over and over and enjoyed them every time. I don't usually remember the books I have read but I do remember parts of these books.

Most of the Crimzon and Clover series are very good reads. I just would like to read more about them in a novel setting rather than a short story.

The story was short, predictable, and went no where fast.

The story was just too short for the story to really be 5 stars. What there was I enjoyed. Love this author.
