But revenge is the business of hate, and there is only one place hate will take you, the end.
The end of you and the end of everything you once stood for.
His words still echo in my mind, next to the images of the places I might have gone.
Amillia Morgentstein wants nothing but freedom.
The freedom to choose the man she marries, or if she marries at all.
But none of that matters when her home is attacked and her family slain.
Broken-hearted and fleeing her burning kingdom, she rides away on the back of her closest friend, Artan.
In a neighboring city, rumors of a red-cloaked assassin flood the streets.
An assassin who targets only the rich and the wicked.
The trail of blood left behind leads back to the burnt-out doors of a once flourishing kingdom, now ruled by a tyrant.
Broken-hearted and bound by vengeance, Amillia must decide if revenge is what she wants.
Or if this is her chance to have the life she always wanted.
How far would you go for the ones you lost?

Review
Anyhow a brilliant novel that is colorful and intense and full of surprises around every corner. Why oh why did it end???
William is a princess introduced to us as she is eighteen and as terminated until mush later in the book. She has the typical jovial do good father and seemingly evil mother with dualing brothers. Of course she is the youngest. Following the formula of most princess heroines who must save the kingdom we find her virginal and innocent yet with the curiosity and fighting skills of a young adventurous teen just like the character Merida from "Brave." Toss in a dragon and weres and vamps and faeries and let's not forget witches an prophecies...and you have another great book by Tara Brown. Not meant for YA audience. Wish there was Book two already. Amazon Reviewer

- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2015The book begins by introducing readers to Amillia, who's a princess. In an unsurprising twist that made me nervous early on, Amillia is in love with Maddox - a commoner with whom she can never have a future. This fairly predictable set up doesn't last long, however, as Maddox turns out to be more than is revealed at first glance. The man Amillia is supposed to be marrying is also, fairly predictably, a misogynistic, spoiled, man-child.
Soon, however, there has been a betrayal of national implications and Amillia has had to flee on her dragon/best friend (yeah, the dragon thing threw me off too at first, too; let it grow on you, I warmed to it quickly). Along the way, Millia will meet Grayson (the third leg of the obligatory love triangle), sisters Katy and Mani (witches who take her in), and lots of the wealthy and immoral.
Millia quickly develops into an assassin with whom I would not want to tangle, but her strength and prowess are all reasonable. Millia fights with intelligence and training in such a manner that her strength feels authentic. I've never been a fan of the traditional love triangle in YA (maybe I'm bitter that I never had two guys fighting over me in high school?), and I was originally pretty skeptical when this Grayson guy seemed to be developing into competition for Maddox. As this is a series, I'm withholding my groaning - Watson has left herself room to grow this into something that would challenge the form in the next novel. I like both of the guys Watson has created, so I'll wait and see.
As Millia finds herself free of the constraints of the castle and royal life, I was originally unimpressed with the direction of her character. I'm not sure if I was uncomfortable with how far off the rails she went personally or if they don't resonate with the character Watson introduced at the outset. Killing at the scale that this young woman engages in, and as suddenly as she does it, seems to beg a touch more introspection, or at least a more subtle transition from princess to psycho-killer. And while I would have loved to get more insight into the transformation, I can appreciate the arc being created for this character as the series continues. The note on which the novel ended, for me, flipped the whole "medieval girls gone wild" tone into a great character development tool, and I can appreciate that.
Some of the "tangled webs" become a bit hard to follow as well, or did at least for me. Readers discover that there are multiple layers to everything in Millia's life, and most of them were connections and heartbreaks about which she had been ignorant. They were awesome reveals I had absolutely not been prepared for when they did come, so points for a well-crafted backstory. I am not a big fan of the whole "we're keeping these secrets from you to protect you" plot device, and this novel does flirt with it. I understand that the series will probably tease out the bigger picture, and keeping that info withheld is supposed to keep me coming back for more (which it will). It can't be said that the main character is totally in the dark. I just wish it hadn't been used at all - your main character is, as the kids say these days, "B.A."; fill her in, she can take it.
All in all, a fun book that I really enjoyed. It was advertised to have several elements in the vein of what I've been looking for in a book lately, and it came through admirably. Download a copy, you will not regret it!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2016Okay, I’m a HUGE fan of Tara Brown a/k/a AE Watson a/k/a TL Brown a/k/a Erin Leigh a/k/a Sophie Starr. Whew! I thinks that it. Yeah, she has loads of pen names, I know. But I love them all. The Reborn Series is an top ten ultimate favorite.
This one didn’t disappoint either. Although I must say that Millia’s mindset of ‘all or nothing’ got a bit old throughout the story. She wanted it all and if she couldn’t have it then it was like she couldn’t have anything. I have a hard time dealing in absolutes so it was very difficult not to want to slap her. Also, I found her a bit self centered. But that is to be expected considering she has always been allowed to do whatever she wanted growing up and the fact that she’s only 18.
This story was great. It was packed with lots of violence, and magic was at play around every corner. Everyone had some kind of magic that affected their role, and it kept surprising me what those roles were. AE has a tendency to alter the way my mind thinks about what is expected of a protagonist in a story. Usually leaving me meloncholy at the end of the story. This one was no exception.
This story made me so angry. I was upset at Grayson’s behavior towards the end. I was angry at Maddox for leading her on then pushing her away. I was upset that her love life was dictated by her role and not by personal preference. Why does love have to be so complicated?
As per usual, this wasn’t just some average love story, it had a slew of twists and turns throughout along with a dash on intrigue as well. Millia is a proficient killer and never hesitates to extract vengeance when needed. Thats one of the things I loved most about her was her unwavering confidence that what she was doing was just. She left a trail of broken hearts in her wake. Although her blind acceptance of help from stangers was, at times, irritating, she was able to get out of most scrapes with little to no help, making her strong in substance but weak when it came to matters of the heart. It was an interesting contrast.
Go forth and read ALL her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow taff Girl!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Stop Reading!
Excellent Book! No boring parts! Read in one day, though had to go to work too and was watching a super tv series, but all stopped for this book, hardly slept, read it on the tube and in lunch break!Fantastic Author! Not an inconsistent plot as another reviewer stipulated; if you read the book and understand Amillia's conflict, you will understand the undercurrents and changes of opinion, confusion; she is a young girl who has had her life overturned and has to absorb what she thought was real with what really is real with people and situations; much like real life actually. We grow with her and it has you gripped all the way through. Can't believe it was free, although it was good technique as now I will have to buy book 2 and more. Wish it was available now! Would like to know more about Artan, the dragon's character and background story (origins) as though he is a wonderful dragon, I feel that he could be so much more developed and explored even though we are told how he came to Amillia etc and how she brought him up; and he is ever present, it could go so much deeper. I hope she develops Artan and Amillia's relationship/communication in the next book. He could have a series all is own. Will have to read the other books from this author in the meantime. Thanks, Tara Brown for such a lovely gift!

4.0 out of 5 stars a great read
Loved this book, the main character is fabulous, she's funny and a complete tom boy! All hopes are pinned on this rag-tale princess and her cheeky dragon. She makes some terrible choices through the story and I found my self chuckling at her. Can't wait for the next book
