Midnight with the Devil (Unlikely Heroes Book 1) Kindle Edition
In Diana Kingston’s defense, it was the middle of the night in the hospital… surely it was just a dream. She hadn’t really sold herself to a stranger to save her father’s life, right? His price? Her…in his bed. This has to be a dream right?
Only her father now fully recovered and a mysterious letter arrives from the tall, dark, handsome—um, Devil? Yep, it was right there on the contract, Lucien Star, aka Lucifer Morningstar.
Their devil’s bargain begins, and Diana vows not to enjoy the dark pleasures he shows her. But the more time she spends with Lucien, the more she’s drawn to the angel hidden deep within his darkness. How in heaven do you save the Devil from himself?

About the author

Emma Castle has always loved reading but didn’t know she loved romance until she was enduring the trials of law school. She discovered the dark and sexy world of romance novels and since then has never looked back! She loves writing about sexy, alpha male heroes who know just how to seduce women even if they are a bit naughty about it. When Emma’s not writing, she may be obsessing over her favorite show Supernatural where she’s a total Team Dean Winchester kind of girl!

A Love Story with Lucifer? Hell Yes!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2019He's dark, sinister, and sensual. She's not.
He's immortal, the Master of Hell. She's not.
He's an angel. She's... Wait, what?
Time to brush up on your Biblical mythology, then. Lucifer was one of the original angels, fallen from grace. This passage describes it with aching beauty, placing this book on my favorites shelf within pages of starting it:
"It seemed like a millennium passed before he realized he lay upon the broken, cracked ground of the earth. His naked body hurt all over, but the pain was greatest along his shoulder blades. He was glad he could not see his back. There would be two terrible wounds replacing his snow-white wings. He reached out and grasped one of the remaining feathers that floated along the ground close to him and slipped it into the folds of the white tunic he wore. He needed that one bit of heaven, that one bit of home, or else he might go mad with grief."
Smitten by Satan, I tell you, completely smitten by his quick humor, delight in earthly pleasures (yes, that kind as well, smut complete with slight kinkiness and domination) and flashes of vulnerability. The devil's in the details, and every detail makes Lucien more irresistible.
The other characters are detailed enough to feel real in their roles, but the main event is the diabolical, sexy man in black. I saw a second in the series and am disappointed it's not a continuation of this book. (20% of this volume is a preview for the next.)
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2024When I first started this book, it was not what I was expecting. It felt a little bit like fan fiction writing, and kinda repetitive. However I convinced myself to continue and I am so glad I did. There were some mild spice scenes, I was rooting for their relationship to last despite the powers seeming to work against them, and I was on edge through those last couple chapters. It was a bit predictive with our heroines purpose, but enjoyable to read the reveal nonetheless. 4.5 stars for me, loved the ending and thought it was absolutely adorable.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2018The blurb from this book intrigued me right away so I was very excited to start reading and it definitely did not disappoint!
This book takes hold of you from the very beginning. I became so engrossed in this story that I had to find out what would happen next to these two characters. I devoured the book in one sitting.
Lucian and Diana were characters that were well thought out and had so much chemistry it was palpable. The story flowed well and the writing was engaging.
Lucien was a complete Alpha male that many feared but for some reason Diana was not scared of him and he found that her strong will intrigued him and he could not stay away from her.
Diana was so kind hearted and she would sacrifice anything for the people she loved. I think from the very beginning she wanted to see the good in Lucien even though he claimed to have no humanity left.
I found myself interested in the periphery characters in this story as well and I do hope that they get their own books especially Andras. I would love to see how he handles his new position and if Jimiel gets to be a guardian to little Amara.
Overall I can not say enough how much I truly loved this beautiful story and I know its a book I will read again and again. I am anxiously awaiting her next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2023Loved Netflix’s Lucifer. Tom Ellis was chef’s kiss. Well….this ain’t it. Although it does seem like the whole concept was ripped off the show. However, the book is lacking in humor, darkness/grit, character development, backstory, and emotional maturity. The character’s get from point A to B too fast and with no bridge. Seriously how do you get from being manipulated into being someone’s sex slave to falling in love with them in only a few chapters. With the whole “if you don’t do as I say someone will die” incentive? Yep, sounds romantic. The heroine was a wet blanket that had very little response to anything and would just giggle. Nope. Probably won’t read any others if this is how unimaginative and tidy the stories are. Best character was Seth the cat. And he didn’t like anything that was happening either.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2018I can’t remember how I first learned about this book. I think I had bought a book on Amazon and this book showed up as a book suggestion that I might be interested in. The cover is the first thing that caught my attention. Then I read the synopsis and I was intrigued. Midnight with the Devil is a book that spoke to my Supernatural/Constantine loving heart. There were aspects of this book, especially with the mythology pertaining to Lucifer and angels, that reminded me of Supernatural and Constantine and made me wonder if this book may have started as a type of fan-fic. Regardless, I loved the book! I really enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Diana and Lucifer. This book is listed as a dark romance, but it wasn’t the kind of dark romance that I’ve read before. There were some light-hearted moments that made me giggle while reading the banter between Lucien and Diana and Lucien engaging in normal human activities. I did feel that the ending was a little rushed because the book skipped a month between the last 2 chapters (not counting the epilogue). I would have liked to see a little more about Lucien and Diana’s relationship, once it became more than just a contract/bargain between them, instead of the couple of sentences in Lucien’s section of Chapter 17. Aside from that, I loved the ending! It was the perfect way to end this book. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2024I loved this take on Lucien Star aka Lucifer Morningstar….
Making a deal, the deal did not include love, but love happened anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I loved everything about it. But the end left me a bit broken if I’m honest. I won’t spoil. It is a happy ever after but not one I expected and it feels a bit bittersweet. But I loved everything about this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book just like Lucifer!
Ok so do you like the tv show lucifer?
Because this is a spicy version of that basically without the crime / police / murder sub plots. This is just a spicy romance!
Lucien aka Lucifer makes a deal with Diana as her father lays dying in hospital. 3 months of visiting him at midnight on Friday nights and in exchange her father survives and she exchanges her corrupted pure soul!
The story follows the couple as they get to know each other over the various meetings. I really enjoyed the ride and thought this was a really sweet romance all in all.
It really did echo elements of the tv show and it also meant that I kept picturing Tom Ellis as Lucien.
If I’m nitpicking, Lucien ended up not being that morally grey for me despite being the devil, however there was reasoning for that and I still found it a really enjoyable read. I found the writing style easy and well described with some good spicy scenes and lust filled moments. It’s fairly short so it’s not the most detailed book, feeling a little like a long novella, so it’s a quick easy read.
I would recommend if you enjoy fallen angel / devil makes a deal romance, it’s one of my favourite tropes and I love Lucifer / Devil romances in general and I really loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story
This story captivated me from the very begining. It’s hot and steamy, but at the same time sweet. Who would fallen in love with devil, and does a devil can love? It’s nice to read a book like this, with great story line, interesting characters and writing pen that simply make you glide trough pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Midnight with the devil
This was a surprisingly good read, good and bad stories running through the book, plot twist at the end a surprise, not for under 18s but well written.

4.0 out of 5 stars I devil I would happily make a deal with
I really enjoyed this book and read it quite quickly. I loved the whole premise of the story with it's biblical/paranormal themes.
It was fast paced short read, my only criticism is that the steamy scenes lacked a little - especially after a scene that gave a description of what would be done. If that had been followed through on, it would have given the book a "fifty shades" vibe which would have suited it well. To the authors credit, I think it was attempted, it just missed the mark.
I loved the ending.
