FIRE FURY FATE | Book III

The Bastion has been breached by the Tendril Hoard, and the deep space vessel that the hoard had encased in lodged within the station, unleashing Zagan. The siege leaves those who had not yet evacuated in dire straights. The Beta Squad survivors, alongside Councillor Merrick Uda, must fight to stay alive under the circumstances. Xan and Raiden, the Black Shadow operatives of the council order a retreat of the fleet, as incoming Kikari warships make way to the Bastion. Desperate to fight back, they seek the aid of the Ethlana on the nearby Colony world, Xi. On Vella, the Saisei Massacre survivors attempt to regroup and aid their wounded while awaiting aid from the Ethlana. With no way to communicate, and escape pods littered across countless miles of rough terrain, humanity faces its biggest challenge since the evacuation of their home planet.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"For the past two hundred years, the multi-generation ship Saisei has travelled the galaxy, looking for a new planet for its human passengers to colonize. There is no Earth to return to.

While approaching an asteroid-sized iceberg (the ship is almost out of water), those who are not satisfied with the current government stage a takeover attempt. It is put down, but with many casualties. On the other side of a nearby gas giant planet, the humans just happen to find a wormhole. At the other end of that wormhole is the interstellar equivalent of the United Nations. It is an immense space structure, so old that no one knows who built it, and home to thousands of beings. The humans are welcomed as new members of the Bastion.

The area is the hub of many different wormholes. A derelict ship comes through a wormhole that hasn't been used in several hundred years. Further investigation shows that it is infested with sentient tendrils that can easily survive in deep space. They can eat through metal, and they live on electrical energy. The tendrils are controlling the ship, because destroying it takes a couple of attempts. A sample of a tendril is analyzed; it seems to be almost indestructible. Later, the sample is taken back through the wormhole and released, just to see what happens. It turns out to be a really bad idea.

This novel is surprisingly good. It helps that it is Part 1 of a series; I look forward to reading the rest of it. This story has it all; humans looking for a new home, deep space, an alien confederation, good characters and hideous alien invaders. It is also a very fast read. Yes, this is really worth the time."
-The Book Revue

"A deftly crafted and original science fiction novel by an author with a distinctive flair for reader engaging narrative storytelling, "Fire Fury Frontier" is especially recommended for community library Science Fiction & Fantasy collections.
One of those very special science fiction novels that are as thoughtful and thought-provoking as they are entertaining."
-Midwest Book Review

"The plot moves quickly, and the story expands through multiple character perspectives...the characters and plot are original and unique to the novel... the book works to establish a broader story universe, which is quite engrossing...The opening act of a promising sci-fi saga."

Science fiction at its best. Wonderful characters, new science, exciting conflict and impending warfare of a magnitude unheard of. On to the second part!

What I liked: The story is full of imagination and adventure. If you like fast-paced sci-fi, you will enjoy this book. I found the characters well-thought our and the world-building solid.
What I disliked: I’m not the biggest fan of anime, and this story developed in my head a bit like an anime sci-fi, space opera. That’s not to say it was bad, but rather, not how I envisaged it from the description. I also found some of the phrasing a little off. Perhaps it is my age, but there were some turns of speech that I didn’t fully grasp what the author was trying to say.

Overall, a good read with some surprises and loads of action. I’d recommend it!

The journey took a lifetime but when it was over the thoughts of making an unclaimed planet home overwhelmed Norita since all she new was space. This si-fi story has it all asteroids, wormholes, aliens and even a little romance.
I like how even though it's part of a series I could follow the story and be thoroughly entertained.

Storyline moves smoothly throughout the book. Characters fit well into the plot and are easily remembered. I don't like cliffhangers!! Would have rated higher, if hadn't been a cliffhanger.

I don't even know where to begin, this book was non-stop action and discovery the whole way through. I've read the prequel, Fire Fury Freedom, and loved it. This book is about 200 years after the prequel and a whole new set of characters, and set in space instead of on a planet. The alien species are incredibly unique, the stakes are high, and the world building is hands down some of the best I've ever read. a sci-fi lovers MUST READ!!!!

This was a great book. I truly enjoyed the story line. I truly enjoy a mystery, the intrigue, The action,The hope, even the humor. These are things that I look for in a story and are what makes the story worth reading. Well I'm off to the next book. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally another epic space opera! A real page turner....

I'm a big fan of the James S. A. Corey series, the expanse, and have been looking for other really good grand scale Sci fi.

Fire fury frontier is a very different approach; the author has built her own universe with unique cultures and aliens. I love the idea of the galactic community.

This made me think of Battlestar Gallactica in terms of the crew/society of humanity.

If you like aliens, worm holes, military sci-fi, and a whole lot of action, this is the one for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great sci-fi adventure
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 20, 2019
This is great sci-fi book in every sense. It takes you on a long voyage through space full of interesting characters, relationships and adventures. It has all the elements that fans of the genre would love and in some ways it reminds me of Star Wars. Here's a little snippet I've taken which was a great bit of writing (without revealing the full context as I don't wanna spoil the events) about how we process regret:

“The hardest thing to accept,” Dr. Murakami continued, “Is that it’s not our fault. Our minds can accomplish the most brilliant things in life; even after all our technological advances, our brains are still the most advanced computers we know of. But like computers, our brains have an uncanny ability to process information. When we look back on an event, a trauma, something we ‘compute’ to be an error, our mind will go over and over it again and again in an attempt to see a solution to the problem. We mull it over, again and again, seeing all of the possible ways we could have changed the situation for a better outcome. But the problem and the outcome are done already complete and we can’t ‘reset’ our lives to try it again. It’s already happened, there’s no going back to change it".

Brilliant.
