"As far as sci-fi goes, this was a refreshingly original read. It was fast-paced, action-packed, and wholly engaging. From the moment the story begins it grabs you and keeps you enthralled and wanting more. I can easily see this book as a TV series or mini-series." -Hanna, IndieReader

Imagine the movies the Crazies mixed with creatures straight out of the movie Resident Evil. Place it in space, bake for 45 minutes at 400 degrees, and finish with a topping of flawed but courageous & heroic cast of characters.

This isn't my usual thing. If it was I'd probably rate it higher but in the current time of Walking Dead Has Been On Forever And Every Other Thing Seems To Be About Zombies I'm a little burnt out about it.

That said, this was a pretty good book. Fairly interesting characters (though the women were a little off. Not super realistic for me) and I loved the mystery animals.

The creatures were what kept me in the book. I liked the parts from their perspective. I liked the mystery. I liked learning about them. They were cool and well done

I don't think I'll be reading the rest of these but if you like military stuff it may be up your alley. Don't pass on it just because it wasn't my favorite. This isn't my genre but was a decent book.

New cities in new settlements on other planets in the galaxy. When society collapses you can either devolve with it or remain civilized. What an interesting new spin on the old apocalyptic thrillers.

It took me a while to finish the book. The first couple of chapters I was like, "I'm about to give up" , however I believe it was around the 8th or 9th chapter where it started to grab my attention. By the 12th chapter, I was all in!!! It was a decent book with a nice ending. I enjoyed the characters and wanted them all to survive but that doesn't work out in these types of books. I'll take a break from the series for now but I will be back to read the second one for sure.

Battling back a rightful fear of starting yet another science fiction book about an apocalyptic world ravaged by a viral outbreak, leaving survivors to ward off creatures of death, Staten's novel offers a unique approach that almost immediately hooks readers in, devouring every word and plunging ahead for more. Early events set the tone for the rest of the story and readers feel their hope ripped away almost as violently as the characters. This intensity and originality is slightly lessened though by sidetracks into variant subplots that seem to take away from the shock and awe first felt and instead offer an attempt at action and excitement that instead feels overplayed and underdone, taking away from the original uniqueness. Also, there were many grammatical and contextual flaws that needed sharpening still. However, it was still an enjoyable and exhilarating read, and I hope to see a continuation that will answer some unresolved questions and further the thrilling events of Weston and others.

It offered a lot of images to dream about in your mind. Very similar in tone and presentation to the ELI Chronicles by Julia Ash. I look forward to reading more from this author!

Came across this book whilst looking for something to quickly read, wasn't expecting something this good. Not the type of book I usually go for but it hooked me right away. Good strong characters keep it flowing, action passages are full on. Almost forgot it was set on another planet but don't let that put you off reading it. Will check out more by this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good story poorly written

The bones of the book are great but it's full of grammar and formatting mistakes, not to mention basic writing errors. His editor and proofreader should be fired. However, if the author works on his tech, he can be a terrific writer someday.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good easy read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 10, 2020
Sunvale is an interesting read, a good take on some common science fiction tropes with a few original twists, to boot. The novel follows the journey of Weston, an amnesiac in a dystopic urban wasteland who gradually learns to trust and co-operate with a group of seeming misfits who have found a way - however precarious - to survive. Together, they navigate a dangerous world as Weston tries everything he can to remember who he is, and how (and why) he has ended up amidst the rubble of this urban wasteland.

I enjoyed this book, overall. It was a fast-paced novel with a real drive to it, and I found myself happily immersed for long stretches of it - although some parts felt a little predictable, I enjoyed the journey to those conclusions nonetheless. I was, if anything, a little underwhelmed by the writing style, but this was only a very mild (and occasional) frustration!
