My life inspires my stories!
"When I was a teenager and still in the closet, I thought I'd never find the sort of love I dreamt about. Coming out changed everything. I eventually met a handsome guy from Germany who was visiting the US as an exchange student. His accent was adorable, his heart was kind, and his muscles were impressive, so I fell quick and hard. We've been married for over twenty years now. He continues to inspire me. I want other people to experience that kind of love through my stories!" -Jay Bell
Jay Bell
I write hot gay books that will break your heart.
Jay Bell writes from his home in Chicago where he lives with his husband and three cats. His best-selling book, Something Like Summer, spawned a series of heart-wrenching novels, a musically driven movie, and a lovingly drawn comic. He has since gone on to write other emotional and yet hopelessly optimistic stories about boys in love. When not crafting imaginary worlds, he occupies his free time with animals, art, action figures, and—most ardently—his husband Andreas.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2023As a big fan of both Jay Bell and the "Something Like..." series, I didn't know if I could fall in love with a new set of characters in a new setting in a different time, but I absolutely have. Jay is a very talented writer and his creativity allows him to create entire worlds, and those characters that inhabit them, as good as some of the best fiction writers out there. In two books now, Jay has created and developed some of his best characters since Benjamin Bentley and Marcello Maltese.
This series is worth reading from the beginning and continuing as long as Jay continues to write them. Read this series, take a chance on falling in love again, and you won't be sorry.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2023The gang is back and so is the drama. Jay is creating a High School we all wish we could attend. Pop culture referenced take me back to my school days. 4.0 for Ricky getting answers.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2023Like all of Jay Bell’s novels, I can not wait for the continuation of this series.
Jay is not a young adult author rather he is an author who captures the essence of young adults and he does so very well.
Relatable characters, good stories that are filled with emotion and that cause the reader to become emotionally involved are what Jay writes. This book does all of the above.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2023Another memorable book in the High School saga from the Master story teller, Jay Bell. I swore that I was only planning to read the first 4 books of the "Something Like Series" and wound up reading all 12 books and everything else Mr. Bell has written because he is a great story teller and continues to transport me back to my youth! Its all there for me, the pain, the bullying, the isolation, the misunderstandings and a glimmer of love with eternal friendship. The excitement for me will be to see these characters grow up and become adults in future books! Mr. Bell never disappoints.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2023For Jay Bell fans or just fans of romantic gay fiction - add this to your collection. Be sure to read "Book-1:Red" first so you'll be able to jump right into the characters. From the moment I discovered Jay Bell's "Something Like Summer", I was completely hooked. I'm sad to see that 12-part series end, but glad to know will be giving us a regular fix of his incredible story-telling and character development talents with the new Pride High series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2023I’ll just say if this was the first Jay Bell book I ever read I probably would not have so may of his other books on my shelves. I am curious to know more about Diego and Ricky as well as Cameron and Anthony.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2023This is the Ricky / Diego story. Other parts are not as compelling, but still good and entertaining. I'm glad JB is such a prolific writer.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2023Amazing characters, I am obsessed....so, so good....loved it. Definitely a GREAT read. Always wanting more and more. LOVE Jay Bells writing....awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent
I didn't find the story as exciting as the red book. I am now onto book 3:yellow. A lot of story building and more character development. So far the books feel like a soap opera in a novel format.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great characters but…
While Jay Bell has a real knack to create relatable as well as lovable characters, his books would benefit from an editorial influence. The dialogue is often quite purple, very few people actually talk like that, and some scenes (like the fake fight in the hospital) are just silly plot devices. But an enjoyable read nonetheless.
