These were fun stories to read with my son. Being a dragon lover, I wish there were more stories where the dragon wasn't the villain, but they were cute stories nonetheless. I love the way they were written, with comments directed at the reader.

I highly recommend this book. My wife checked it out from the library to read with our 7-year-old before bed. She would read one story to him each night while I put our younger child to bed. When I came down he would always excitedly tell me all about the story they had read, including tiny little details. Several times he told my wife "I wish we didn't have to take this back to the library" so she got it for him for his birthday. We couldn't believe how excited he was as he almost started to cry and yelled "My wish came true!" Very enjoyable book.

I read Edward Eager's fantasy books forty years ago. The characters in his books read books by E. Nesbit. So I'm enchanted to find that these are real books and I can read them on my Kindle.

However, my Kindle version has no illustrations. Ouch! The Project Gutenberg edition has beautiful line-drawings. It would be lovely to integrate these.

Aside from the missing illustrations, the book was wonderful. Literally, full of wonder: lots of twists that I've never encountered before or since. Dragons both good and evil; princes likewise; unexpected weaknesses and resolutions. Plus a few jokes slipped in for adults (at least, I think they would have gone over my head when I was eight.)

I got this for my daughter to share my love of dragons with her. It is a collection of short stories. I am sure we will enjoy them together.

The best of Edith Nesbit can be found in her books such as "Five Children and It" and "The Phoenix and the Carpet" and "The Treasure Seekers." However The Book of Dragons is quite enjoyable, too. She has a twee style which appeals to both adults and children and adds humour to the stories.

I was very disappointed with this book. I bought it to read to my 5 year old twins. It is not a picture book which disappointed them but I knew that going in. For me, it was the awful old style wording that was so far off anything a 5 year old would appreciate. They lost interest very fast. I had to keep reading ahead and change the wording to try and make it understandable for them. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this book and certainly would never recommend it.

A lot of vintage stories and reads like fairy tales with morals to the stories. I love the old-time feel of this book and it's such a great thing to read to a dragon-loving child. My son was very enthusiastic about this book starting at about age six.

i absolutly love dragons and this book is a really neat, different kind of dragon book. i like it! the short stories telling each dragon a different way is cool too. i particularly like the one with the dragon in the dungeon and the one with rotundia and the purple dragon..

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book about Dragons there is.

It is hard to pick a favorite story from this collection. They are quite charming. Aimed squarely at the Edwardian child these unique tales capture the imagination and are filled with fun asides for the attentive adult. Somewhat reminiscent of George MacDonald but more jovial.

Enjoyable bedtime fare, with a sometimes cumbersome vocabulary and the cultural gaps resulting from a lapse of a hundred years.

My ten year old daughter loved reading this book out loud to the family on road trips and it remains a favorite.

Contains super stories, there's no doubt and it's great to have them all together in one book, but I was disappointed by the presentation - page after page of 'block' aligned writing and not a picture anywhere to be seen. Fine for parents to read aloud, but less inspiring if, like me, you want it for your children to read to themselves.
