The Anniversary Waltz: A novel Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 49 ratings

At their sixtieth anniversary party, Adam Carlson asks his wife, Elizabeth, for their customary waltz. After the dance they gather the family and share their story--a story of love and courage overcoming adversity and thriving in the face of overwhelming odds.

It’s the summer of 1946, and Adam has just returned from the war to his home in Reunion, Montana. At a town festival he meets Elizabeth Baxter, a young woman going steady with his former high school rival and now influential banker, Nathan Roberts.

When Adam and Elizabeth share a waltz in a deserted pavilion one evening, their feelings begin to grow and they embark on a journey, and a dance, that will last a lifetime.

This is such a touching story, especially for one who was born after WWII as I was. The romance, family life, and story book ending are wonderful. I am reading it again and have also purchased my own personal copy that is signed by the author! So happy to have it on my ebook!

This book was sweet and innocent, a love story with an unexpected event. The Anniversary Waltz is a tale of how one man, back from the war, seeks to win the heart of a woman he quickly falls in love with. For the positive, it's a novel sprinkled with romantic scenes (kept clean). For the negative, there were a lot of cliched sayings used in dialogue that began to distract me - "cost an arm and a leg, Rome wasn't built in a day, let bygones be bygones, stick in the mud, two left feet" and many more.

This is a book for readers who enjoy old-fashioned love stories, sweet and a slower read.

The characters seemed real, descriptions made me feel as if I were right there and I was sorry to have the story end. I know it's a good book when I "miss" having the characters around when I've finished reading the story. I immediately purchased Nelson's new book.

The Anniversary Waltz is the debut novel by author Darrel Nelson and for the most part I enjoyed this book. It opens with a couple celebrating their 60th anniversary and re-enacting the conversation that they had decades ago when they danced together for the first time. This is something they've done on their anniversary ever since.
The book then goes back to the beginning of their love story and gives background on both characters. While the story was good, I got bored about halfway through. It was sweet but didn't "wow" me. I found it to be forgettable.
I really enjoyed reading about the era that Adam and Elizabeth lived in. I've always been fascinated with the 40s and this was a fun book to live vicariously through.
It was a clean read and I applaud the author for that.

it to my sister in-law for an Anniversary gift and she enjoyed it as much
    as I did.

This was a fun read, however, the editing was so poorly done that it distracted from the story considerably. And for that reason, I would never read this book again.
