Tin Man Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

HOPE COMES AT A PRICE.

A Merciless Enemy. A New Threat. A Mysterious New Hope.

The Ataxica, a brutal and chaotic enemy, have wiped out most of humanity, leaving behind only children. Years after that disastrous first contact, a remnant military force known as the Service represents humanity's last hope. But hope is fading fast, as the Ataxica have developed a new technology that gives them a significant advantage.

On the eve of a devastating attack, members of the Service discover a lone figure — an artificially intelligent being, floating in space. Once revived, "Tin Man" may hold the key to humanity's survival, as well as the secret of their deadliest enemy. If he doesn't destroy them all first.

Kevin Tumlinson is an award-winning and bestselling novelist, living in Texas and working in random coffee shops, cafés, and hotel lobbies worldwide. His primary work is in thrillers—including his wildly popular Dan Kotler Archaeological Thrillers. But he also successfully published science fiction, fantasy, and escapist fiction.

Kevin grew up in Wild Peach, Texas, where he was raised by his grandparents and given a healthy respect for storytelling. He often found himself in trouble in school for writing stories instead of doing his actual assignments, and he doesn't regret that in the least. And as Wild Peach was in no way metropolitan, or even approaching suburban, young Kevin had plenty of time to put his imagination to work crafting entire universes of characters, settings, and artifacts that would later inform his adult career choice.

Kevin's love for history, archeology, and science has been a tremendous source of material for his writing, feeding his fiction and giving him just the excuse he needs to read the next article, biography, or research paper, visit the next city or country, and embark on the next adventure. Kevin and his wife, Kara, can often be found traveling as van-lifers, along with their little chihuahua terrier, Mini.

This is a short story that I hope Kevin Tumlinson continues to add to or makes into a full novel. You never lose interest as humans travel through space looking for a safe place. They are being chased by the enemy that destroyed them. Suddenly they see a piece of machinery out their window that resembles a man. The rest of the story keeps you glued to you seat. What is it? Friend or enemy? Kevin does a great job with this story bringing up many questions about the end result of the never ending battle of humans vs machines. I'm really hoping for more regarding this short story. It's very enjoyable yet has a moral to it to. One of the reasons I love Kevin Tumlinson,s books.

The Tin Man is a nifty little Sci-Fi story with an interesting set of characters and a clever plot. Granted, it's a bit on the short side and the formatting is a little wonky. But the writing flows nicely. You can't wait to find out who or what the Tin Man is and where he comes from. Our "hero", Anderson, is a likable guy and the Tin Man is also kind of likable in a mysterious sort of way. I would have liked more info on the Ataxica and where they came from. It's hinted at toward the end of the story but not fully revealed. Also, it seems like the story just ends right when it really gets going. Maybe Kevin meant to write a sequel and got hi-jacked by Dan Kotler.

In a time when humanity's survival depends on a young military force called the Service, Admiral Anderson Marks desperately tries to defend against an unyielding enemy. Just when the Ataxica, an alien force with the horrifying ability to adapt and develop new technology, is preparing to lay siege, a mysterious lone being is found floating in space.

J. Kevin Tumlinson mixes story telling techniques to tell a fine short story about the survival of humanity. It's the classic story telling of man vs. machine, man vs. man. It's good sci-fi and it's all a mystery. From the Ataxica to the Tin Man, you'll want to keep reading to learn their secrets.

Come aboard the Spire as Anderson, as he prefers to be called, learns if the Tin Man is the key to the Ataxica's destruction, or that of the human race.

The premise of the story is very clever and leaves an almost unlimited number of directions to go. I think it could be a great series.

Tin Man jumps right into the action and never lets up, something that cannot be said for most sci-fi, a genre I tend to shy away from because while the concept may be cool, the delivery is often sluggish and mechanical. Not the case here, thankfully. Tin Man is definitely hard sci-fi in content, but it has the tone and pace of a pulp novel, and I mean that in a good way.

I don't consider myself an sci-first aficionado but I do love this author's books. They are always a joy to read because you become a part of the story. It is always good to go on a quick easy vacation somewhere you are the first.

Quick easy read about the nemesis of the Earth born star explorers and mankind in general. The story leads the reader down the history and mystery of our space exploration. Can mankind find a way to survive the Tin Man's effect?

I have read this story a few times and enjoyed it each time. I love the twist at the end.
