About the authors
Lisa Jane Smith is the New York Times #1 Bestselling author of The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle, The Forbidden Game, Dark Visions, Wildworld and Night World series. She has written over two dozen books for children and young adults, and has enjoyed writing every one of them. She lives in the Bay Area of California, with a backyard that is full of flowers, which she adores, especially with many different shades of roses.
She loves to visit a friend’s little cabin in the Point Reyes National Seashore area, which has lots of trees, lots of animals, lots of beaches to walk on, and lots of places to hike. Once, while hiking, she saw a snow-white buck which allowed her to follow it nearly half a mile. She also likes to collect things: angels (they remind her of her late mother), tiny boxes from different countries or of fanciful shape, nineteenth century children’s literature, and books about quantum physics—especially about the mystery of the dark energy in the universe. A militant optimist, she is also part of the Velociraptor Sisterhood (a fancy way of saying that she likes to read, write and discuss books with strong female characters), and she has traveled extensively in Europe and the Far East. The two countries she loves to visit most are Great Britain, with its historic monuments and amazing country landscapes, and Japan, with its bustling urban life and exquisite mountain scenery.
Her favorite current writer is Terry Pratchett, the author of the Discworld series, for its wild and witty satires on life, death, war, love, assassins, coppers, and Australia. Her favorite classical writer is Jane Austen. Her favorite poets are Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson. Her favorite movies are The Seven Samurai and Avatar (analyze that!). She doesn’t have a favorite TV show, because she doesn’t have time to watch TV (and only owns one for playing movies).
Her favorite people are her readers, each of whom she cherishes with deep and lasting affection.

I must start of by saying I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought it was going to be Stelena driven like the last 3 books but it wasn't, it showed how each of the characters have grown and developed but strangely Stefan remained the same.
I know I may be biased because since The Awakening I have had no love for Stefan but I always thought he was trying to be something he wasn't. Now, this book and all the previous books reinforced my first thought about him. That also continued with the relationship between him and Elena it always seemed so forced as if they were trying to make this more than it was supposed to ever be!
Anyways I digress... I was going to give this book 4 stars but because of the amazing ending (view spoiler) I was sooo ecstatic! The ending alone deserved 5 stars. So I was okay with that it worth the extra star.
The writing was all over the place and some parts just didn't quite make sense (view spoiler)
After The Hunters Trilogy which was total failure to me, I was about to rip my eyes out but in Destiny Rising (view spoiler) I knew a lot would develop form that so I allowed my self to read this book and it was so worth it.
It doesn't matter now how I felt about the other books because they have redeemed my faith in the TVD books and I am willing to complete the series (view spoiler)
Honestly, this makes me sick, the Stelena relationship was just to much and it needs more basis than what was presented in the last Trilogy and it also needs better writing.
All in all I have faith in this book because it has the potential to be great.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2023Amazing plot line with so many twists and turns! Kept me up all night! Wanted to read before watching the show, and I'm so glad I did!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2023I'm in awe I never imagined the story going like this. I binge watched the whole vampire diaries saga and this book was kinda like a back story novel where you can see how the story links and continues.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2013Okay, first, let's get something clear. I got into the books because of the tv show and that being said, I love both for what they are, LJ Smith is an amazing writer and I find Aubrey Clark in the same caliber as her as it can't be easy picking up someone else's work. She has a neat storyline with genetically engineered vampires who can't be killed by the traditional methods are seemingly unstoppable as they hunt down the old vampires, including the Old Ones. It was also nice to see Bonnie and Matt coming into their own---Bonnie with her witch powers and Matt getting a girl who wasn't hung up on some other guy as well as wanting to protect his girlfriend from all the dangers out there. There were twist and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat and even some surprise deaths---but I won't tell ya who! The only thing that I disliked about this were the occasional author notes that were found in the book (such as #TVD11WithoutaTrace at the end of chapter 7, and #TVD11Katherine Tease a couple of pages into chapter 12) that jarred me out of the story. It would be best if she waited until the end of the book to put those types of notes (As an appendix or something) or better yet, drop them all together. But overall, I can't WAIT to see how Elena and the gang come out of THIS one as well as how they're gonna deal with a new race of vampires (something tells me that this is going to blow up in the scientist's face).
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2013I never really liked Stefan so the highest point of TVD The Salvation - Unseen was tge death of Stefan, though I thought it was portrayed in a kinda silly, easy and unfais way. Which makes me wander if he's really dead. But the whole lab-created-vampires plot was waaay too much to swallow. Though the last page made me fear for Damon's life... What a clifhanger! Wow! Damon being the last of his kind? I don't know, but I can't forsee a future for Damon in this world anymore. Not like this anyway! Ultimately, I loved it and am already eagger for the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2013I put a Five star rating because The Book was so good I couldn't put it down, I would Recommend this book to everyone old enough to read it of course , and to those who love to read about vampires and adventure and such, the story made me a believer that there is such thing as hope still alive, and I am so glad that I took the time to look into this series, and of course I am a Damon Fan, so I am voting that he will get the girl in the end smiles.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2013This book was okay, but not up to the standard of the originals. There were random plots pulled out of no where that seemed to make no sense and random characters added in for basically no reason other than to fuel the random plots. There was basically no action at all or romance scenes and just a lot of moping from all the characters. I love Elena and Stefan together, but their relationship was so out of character for both of them. Then there was the random adding in and then killing off of Katherine; what was the point of that? There were too many small plot lines that didn't intersect. I absolutely hated the ending. It was pulled out of basically no where and killing Stefan? What was the point? Elena chose Stefan books ago but now it seems that they're trying to bring back the love triangle again. I liked Meredith and Alaric's relationship and I loved Zander and Bonnie, even though I've always hoped for Bonnie and Damon to be together. That whole scienced-up vampire plot was ridiculous and incredibly hard to swallow. And Jack? The random hunter? Actually being a vampire and then trying to change Meredith? Annoying. Overall, I'm glad I read the book, but it feels like the series is becoming ridiculous and being dragged out far too long.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2014Love love love it have read the whole series of books in order up to this point and I watch the TV Show. if you love this series then you should also read Stephan's Diaries which is a series of six books about Stephan's life before he met Elaina and everyone else in this series of books. Trust me it is a great Series to read if you love to read about Vampiries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back on track!
This is the best 'ghost writer' Vampire Diaries yet! It is very exciting and well written in a style I think similar to LJ Smith's. I just couldn't put it down - just like the original LJ books!
There is a twist at the end that I never would have seen coming however this ending may divide opinion on the book as some readers won't like it. Let's just hope we get what we want in the next 2 books and this ending isn't final! I can't say much else without giving too much away but once you read it you'll know what I mean.
*edit 29/06/14*
Well we didn't get what we want (well what I want anyway) in the next 2 books. The next one, The Vampire Diaries: 12: The Salvation: Unspoken, is good and exciting, well written etc like this one, with another excellent unexpected ending. But the last book, The Vampire Diaries: 13: The Salvation: Unmasked, is awful. Very hard to read and undoes everything from the whole series! Avoid at all costs and just make up your own ending!

5.0 out of 5 stars Schönes Buch, Story interessant
