With Juri in control and everything in absolute chaos, Lela plunges into the depths of hell to free Malachi from creatures that have waited decades to exact their revenge. Together, they infiltrate the most horrifying realm either has yet encountered in the Shadowlands—the bitter landscape ruled by the Mazikin.
The stakes could not be higher, and Lela must accept the help—and love—of people she barely knows or trusts. As alliances and loyalties shift and she realizes the soul she came to save isn’t the only one in need of rescue, can Lela summon the strength to see the fight through to the very end?

Wonderfully written, and brilliantly crafted, CHAOS was a dark and dangerous world full of monsters, vengeance, blood-lust and insanity, twisted with romance, sacrifices, and the power of true love...
CHAOS was an absolutely wonderful conclusion, with epic twist and turns, and nothing short of deadly. Sarah Fine packs a whole new punch in this explosive conclusion to the Guards of the Shadowlands trilogy that will leave you utterly satisfied, but still demanding more.
Pheww... What a ride!!! CHAOS was nonstop chills, thrills, action and adventure. I was left with a huge smile on my face when it was over. I can't remember the last time I felt utterly satisfied at the end of a series as I was this one.
Our main characters Malachi and Lela have been though so much together and apart, that it was truly heartwarming to finally see them come to the end of their journey. And I think Sarah Fine did a wonderful job with that closure—but at the same time still left it open enough in case she ever wants to revisit these characters in the future, in which I REALLY HOPE she does!
The plot thickens in this final installment in the Guards of the Shadowlands trilogy. And we finally—FINALLY, get to visit hell. And ooh, what a vicious hell it is too!! The Mazikin are even more vile then I thought they were. Vengeful, bloodthirsty, power-hungry animals, but what deliciously entertaining vile creatures they were! They were some nasty things, but made for a thrilling ride.
THE PLOT
Lela's world is shattered when Malachi is forcefully ripped from her life and taken to the worse kinda hell imaginable, the Mazikin City. She abandons all other responsibilities and dives head first into hell itself, and is determined to save the boy she's come to love—or die trying...
It was suppose to be them against the world—that's how it's always been since Malachi came into her life and brought the only sunshine it's seen in years. Now, she's not so sure life is meaningful without him. So Lela does the only thing she can, and storms the judges court and demands to go to hell and bring Malachi back herself. But what Lela doesn't except is the judge to willing submit without a fight, and not only support her mission, but also have a bigger mission for her in hell with the help from a former fallen ally that has her own mission in hell—Ana, a former guard who just so happens to have unfinished business in hell as well...
Lela and Ana have a plan:
Infiltrate the Mazikin City, scope it out, find Malachi and Takeshi, complete the judges mission, and get the hell out of there without getting killed in the process. Simple right?? I think not!! Two against the whole Mazikin city, fighting to find their men and completing their mission is going to be no easy feat, but Lela and Ana will stop at nothing until they save the ones they love. But once they actually get to the Mazikin City, they realize their is way more to this mission then they once thought. And how can they save two souls, when they're are thousands if not more in need of saving too? Can they abandoned all the other souls to only save the two they love, and can their hearts really bear that kind of sacrifice??
Lela, Malachi, Ana, and Takeshi all reunite in this epic journey through the treacherous depths of hell, and discover the full capabilities of the power of true love. All while facing down their ultimate battle as they try and fight their way out of hell and defeat the Mazikin once and for all...
CHAOS was a wonderful conclusion to an epic series that I absolutely adored. I really hope Sarah Fine decides to revisit this series again, because the love I have for Lela and Malachi runs deep, and I would be thrilled to have more from them and their horrifyingly wonderful world. But if it has to end, then the way it did was perfect, and satisfied in more ways then one. I loved the thickened plot, the character growth, and how love and loyalties were tested and proven, and the journey they all took and conquered together was torturous but endured all in the name of love. CHAOS was positivity emotional and utterly satisfying, and will go down as one of my favorite series of all time!!
Overall, Sarah Fine knows how to pack a powerful story that utterly grabs you from the beginning and never lets up. I will read anything this woman writes and I'm sure I'll love it. I'm terribly saddened to see this series and characters come to an end—but what's the saying—All good things must come to an end!?!?!? And that definitely applies to this series. FIVE BRILLIANT STARS to CHAOS, the epic conclusion in Shadowlands trilogy that is not to be missed!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2016A good final volume of the trilogy. I liked the plot and storyline. There is a lot of action through out the story and the whole series of books.
I am not a fan of most romantic novels because of the continuous dialogue with the protagonist towards their perceived boyfriend or girlfriend. This series is no exception and this inhibits some of the action. Some of this is good but not to the degree that is in this series. We were spared the detailed description of the sexual act that many romantic authors include. Ms. Fine does a nice job of repeating her description of feelings without using the same words.
I have been curious on why female authors choose to have weak heroines. Lla makes many mistakes becauSe she is more concerned with Malachi. Lela has to be rescued almost every time she gets into a fight by Malachi or other male figure. Ms. Fine is not the only female author to do this as Janet Evonovich does the same with her Stephany Plum series. Maybe if I was a female I would not have these comments.
This is a good series and worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2015An Open Letter To Chaos,
Why? Why are you over? I still don't think I'm ready for you to be the end of one of my favorite series, but that's my own fault. I honestly can't find any problems with you though, so that's good. You delivered a action packed, tear inducing, kickass ending to one of the most creative groups of books I've ever read. You gave me everything that I wanted and I couldn't be happier! Well, I guess I could be happier, but that's only if another book magically appeared in front of me.
-The White Unicorn
Parting with this series has been tough for me. As you can see I didn't jump on reading Chaos right away and part of that came from not wanting The Guards of the Shadowlands to be over. Now that I've read it, I could be happier with the outcome, and though I was never worried, I feel like Fine deserves a life time supply of chocolate (or her preferred sweet of choice), because she's awesome!
Chaos is the best of every world. We get the action and raw emotion of Sanctum, while also getting the complexities of Fractured mixed in. The book is high octave action and I have to admit that I had to put the book down a few times. It was so intense that I would find myself needing to take breaks just so I could breathe. Fine introduces us to a new part of the afterlife that is pretty horrid, but also full of her signature style of hope.
The Mazikin world that Fine has created for Chaos is the kind of world building that I love. It's dark, no one is safe and you're not sure what the outcome will be. It keeps the plot tension at a high and gives our characters a landscape where they are able to grow even more than we've already seen them do in the other books. It was also great to delve into The Mazikin history and see just how tricky they are, as well as seeing that evil and goodness can live anywhere.
No one get's left behind in this conclusion and it was nice to be reunited with characters that we haven't seen for awhile and meet some that we've heard about. It was interesting to see Ana in charge this time around. Her chemistry with Lela was an interesting one. In the end they wanted the same thing, but there was a bit of head butting, due to the fact that Lela likes to do things her own way.
It was terrifying to see Fine put Malachi through, which put everyone else through hell as well. He got the brunt of the horror, but it blend into everyone else's lives too. Of course, you're rooting for both Malachi and Lela the whole time. Their love story comes to a beautiful conclusion that isn't overpowering to the plot and it makes me like them even more.
In the end (because that's what this is) I couldn't have been happier. I'm glad that this is the book that I got to use to say "bye" to some of my favorite characters and world building. I'm also that glad that Fine never lost her touch to make you feel hope as a reader, even in the most dire of circumstances.
I can't recommend this series enough. Please read it if you haven't.

5.0 out of 5 stars far from chaotic, you want this kind of chaos;
CHAOS. Oh CHAOS how do I even go about reviewing you.
When I started this book I was, shockingly, frustrated and disappointed. We survived FRACTURED (barely) and avoided the second book slump only to have a less than epic start to the big final finale of the series, tripping over new (old) characters and being bogged down by confrontations and accusations that while were somewhat deserved, were also hard to swallow when they ended up being repeated every few chapters. But I wasn't deterred. I had faith that Fine would dig in, dig deep, and give me cause to regret doubting her, that it was all for a reason, and that I might also end up questioning my tolerance for pain.
And I was proven right.
CHAOS hurt, man. It bloody hurt. But it was beautiful and epic and horrible and perfect. I think I liked FRACTURED a tiny bit more but this book was pretty much everything I could've wanted for this series. Not to mention feels I didn't even know I needed (mostly because it meant suffering MORE), twists I never could've predicted, and a great conclusion to a stunning storyline filled with redemption and second (third, fourth, fifth?) chances for characters that had been through so much.
It was also filled with so much information. Information I'd been craving since book one, in fact, and finally all of my questions were answered and while the revelations were surprising.. they shouldn't have been. Not really. Or I should've known better. Fine has constantly challenged readers with her ability to make characters, themes, tropes, more than just what you know them to be and instead show you what all these elements COULD be if more writers just took the time to flesh out standard concepts. Something she's done brilliantly. Everything from depression, suicide, mental health, consent and choice. There are so many layers to the Guards of the Shadowlands series, so many messages that she's sending to young and older readers alike, but never does Fine come across heavy handed or preachy with what she's writing about.
This series made me laugh, had my pulse pounding (for a variety of reasons) and brought tears to my eyes. It was such an unexpected delight to discover and I'm so glad I did. And though I wish they had nicer covers (yeah yeah, snob) I still have every intention of buying and enjoying these for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trotz leichter Schwächen ein toller Abschluss

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read for young and old alike
From start to finish this series mesmerised me. I loved all its twists and turns, its underlying love story, its ideology. Sarah Fine's idea of the afterlife and how to survive is imaginative, fun and full of hope. I highly recommend this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Romance with too much violence and pain...
We knew right from The Start that Lela and Malachi would survive it all and the plot is sufficiently interesting but there is so much pain ,Blood and death that is all too long drawn out and One breathes a sigh of relief at The end.
