Review
Readers will easily identify as Lindsey navigates first love, social pressure, and church teaching to determine her own convictions about chastity. Smith writes with unlimited grace. --Bethany Pierce, author of Feeling for Bones
From the Author
At the time it might have felt like a chance worth taking, it might have seemed like the only way out or maybe it was something you felt you deserved. But later, maybe years or the next week or the morning after your decision, you regretted your action, or your choice not to act, and its consequences.
In my new novel, Hot, Lindsey has always planned on saving herself, even wanted to wear a purity ring, but she is smitten with her boyfriend, Noah, who seems to understand her when no one else does. Everywhere she turns, the world tells her sex is not only okay, but it is romantic and thrilling. Well, everywhere seems to tell her that except for the Bible, but it was written thousands of years ago, right?
The problem is, with sex there are no do-overs. Once you've had it, you are no longer saving yourself for anyone or anything. The saving is over, or is it?
In Hot, you will follow Lindsey down her road of indecision and witness the consequences of her choices. You will also see God's amazing grace offered to her, if only she is willing to reach out to Him.

About the author
Laura L. Smith has been searching her whole life for beauty. Not in the world—there’s plenty of that—in the crimson of a cardinal’s feather, in the sound of waves crashing along a shore, in the melody of a Beatles’ ballad, or in a Chagall stained glass window. The world is filled with beauty, but for her that was another story. It took her years to discover her true beauty, to fully grasp she is made in the image of her Creator, and therefore, she is beautiful. The incredible thing is…so are you. You were marvelously made by God to inspire awe. No matter what the world tries to tell you, no matter what you try to tell yourself. No one can rob you of the incredible true identity God instilled in you. Smith tells stories (through books, blogs, and speaking) in hopes of helping you discover what took her so long to see: your beautiful true reflection in Christ. Smith lives in the college town of Oxford, Ohio with her husband and four kids.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2016I really enjoyed book 2 by this Author. 2 complaints: 1. These books are way to short for the price I had to pay. .99 would be the appropriate price for how short these books are not $4. And 2. I feel like it ends too soon. When you are not going to continue in the next book about a character it would nice not to leave it on a cliff hanger.
Aside from those 2 annoyances I enjoyed seeing the book from Lindsey's point of view & truly seeing that even the pretty, petite, skinny girls are insecure at that age.
I whole heartedly believed in high school that sex at that age was just not appropriate bc of all that comes with it. So I like seeing that other people believe that way too. Even if they mess up. Good book over all, I would recommend it but only if it goes down in price.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2010Lindsey has emerged from an ugly duckling to a beautiful young woman who dresses like a model. She should be happy but inside she feels empty. Her parents are so caught up with her rebellious sister and Lindsey feels alone. She thinks no one understands her until she meets Noah. He possesses a calm confidence and Lindsey wants this for herself.
She finds herself caught up in world of popularity, fashion and boys. She is torn between values she has grown up with and the temptations that face our teenagers today. She is haunted by questions that she cannot find answers to. Will Lindsey discover what matters most before she becomes even more entangled in the new world she has discovered?
This book will be an invaluable addition to any teenage girl's library. I recommend that parents read this book to understand the problems and questions that face our young girls today. I recommend this book highly and am looking forward to reading other books by this author.
I received a free copy of Hot from Navpress in exchange for an open and honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2013This was an enjoyable read that was honest about a Christian teenager dealing with the topic of sex. Kids are surrounded by it all the time, and the pressure is intense. This book would be a good choice for a parent and teen to discuss the choices the characters make, and hopefully give them some insight into the choices they will be faced with. It was current, mentioning things that are relevant to teenagers today, ipods, facebook, clothing, etc. There are other books in the series that tackle different issues such as divorce & eating disorders. Parents, take the maturity of your teen into consideration. You may want to read it first.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2013Again, Laura L. Smith takes on a topic that's difficult to disuss -- teenage sex. She approaches the topic from a sensitive, realistic stand point and illustrates God's love and grace so beautifully.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2016This is a great book! I would recommend it to any teenage struggling with the same issue.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2010Lindsey Kraus is a sophomore in high school and a dancer in her schools dance team. Ever since her full makeover by her sister Kristine, she went from being the gawky kid in eighth grade to the pretty girl she always dreamed of being. Her new look drew in the boys and they started asking her out. The only problem was that they all seemed to be interested in one thing. Lindsey wanted someone that would listen to her and actually want to know her. Then, while rushing to class one day she ran into Noah Hornung, a Junior in the high schools hockey team. She really didn't know him much, but after that run-in she couldn't stop thinking about him. They began dating and Noah made her feel beautiful and loved. He listened to her and the problems she had at home with her family just seemed to go away when she was with him. One night at their youth group meeting, their pastor talked about the physical relationship God intended for a married couple to have. Lindsey always believed that she would save herself for marriage but with Noah having already gone too far with another girl, she worries he'll try to pressure her into doing something she'll regret. Will she give in to temptation?
I started reading this book today and finished within an hour. It's very easy to get drawn in and the characters are so relatable. I liked this story a lot, but there were a few things said by the teens that I could have done without. It's kind of sad because when you think about it, a lot of teens these days say and do much worse things, and purity and abstinence are the last thing on their minds. Anyway, the author did a great job and I love that the characters deal with real issues that teens and young adults might be dealing with as well.
I received this book from Navpress as part of their Blogger Review Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
