4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 422 ratings

When the call came, Lucy Hickey-Rios and her staff rushed to rescue a dog that had been horribly injured. The police had found him hiding in an apartment where his owner, a young woman, had been stabbed to death.
While the police investigated the crime, Lucy, the Executive Director of a private, non-profit animal shelter, and her staff, went about their business caring for the homeless and abused animals in their community. Unbeknownst to them, the killer plotted and planned. He had some unfinished business. He still had a dog to kill. Can Lucy stop him, or will she become his next victim?

Love this new author for me!

I have become quite addicted with this author's books. Poor Georgie is the latest one and I just could not put it down. Georgie is a sweet dog who was almost murdered when his human mom was and fought to come back and be a loving dog once again. Lucy Rios, the director of the Mercy shelter is a bull dog herself when it comes to the welfare and happiness of all the animals in her care plus she worries about all those who are not. This book is like a scary mystery, but the author also has a fantastic sense of humor so scary parts while making you sit on the edge of your seat will soon morph into something lighter and funny to make you smule, and for me, laughing out loud was a treat. I love this lady's books and I believe that any animal lover will also enjoy them as well as many becoming more aware of the plight of so many homeless dogs and cats and the greater need to neuter and spay to keep the population down for all those unwanted dogs and cats. It's such a good book. All of her books are wall worth the read. By Mikki McBride

Once I started this book I could not put it down. It was full of suspense and exciting. It also told true friendship among the different rescue groups and the help they gave one another. Which I didn't know existed. So glad that Georgia found his forever home.

I am in love with this author's books. Each one has had me in suspense with great plot lines and full of twists. And as a fellow dog rescue worker, she is on point with current rescue issues and is also informative about animal shelters, which is very admirable. I look forward to the next new release!

Funny, well written and inspiring. Makes you want to help more with the abused women and pets out there. My two loving dogs sat with me through the whole book.

This was a rather interesting novel.
Having worked as a Social worker in the field of Domestic Abuses, I know, what people are capable of. I know that people will use we your pet against you, and they will harm it to hurt you. I recommend this book as a good read but I cannot give five stars, only because it was too easily solved. Otherwise a good, easy read
