About the Author

With two historian parents, Sarah couldn't help but develop an interest in the past. She went on to get more than enough education herself (in anthropology) and began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded she let them out. While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time while in college. She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.

She makes her home in Oregon.

I really enjoyed The Oaken Door even more than I did the first book, if that's possible, since I gave the previous book 5 stars too, lol. I think maybe its because I am a romantic at heart and there is nothing nicer reading about characters who go through the worst situations and ultimately find love. If you have read the first book in The Lion of Wales series (Cold My Heart) you will know that both and Nell and Myrddin have spent years keeping a secret from those around them - they have visions of King Arthur's death. Of course that's not the sort of secret you want just tell anybody, particularly at time when people would think you were either possessed or crazy. So both have built internal walls around who they are and both are reluctant to trust others. Yet, both seem drawn to each other and it isn't until Myrddin's life is endangered that they slowly come to trust each other. There are some surprising turns in The Oaken Door, especially for Myrddin. I continue to be a huge fan of Sarah's stories that are mostly set in Wales; her ability to write and describe the Wales of the Medieval period brings to life how people lived at that time. Her stories capture all the intrigue that existed between family members of the aristocracy, the shifting allegiances, the struggles of the ordinary man caught up in all the power struggles, and the difficulties of knighthood with their obligations to those whom they serve. Sarah brings to life a time long gone and forgotten, breathing new life into this almost mythic period in Welsh history. Nell and Myrddin are two of my favourite characters - they are adventurous, strong and loyal, and both work together to protect their King and just maybe they will be able to change the future. For me this is a romantic and magical read.

I found out about this author from Diana Gabaldon's website. She highly recommended this author for those who are waiting for Outlander series Book 9 to be published. I started with After Clemeria Series then The Lion of Wales series. The story is holds your attention, the characters are very well filled out, historical content is very well done and I truthfully couldn't put each book down until finished and then immediately ordered the next one and couldn't put it down, etc. etc!!! You won't be disappointed!
Ms. Woodbury, you have a new fan! Will be looking for each new book that you right and pray that you continue to write these wonderful stories! Loved them!

I liked the content of this book - but something is strange here. The content in The Oaken Door (and book 3, Of Mice and Dragons) is included in my copy of Cold My Heart. This doesn't appear to be the case for all reviewers so I'm not sure whether this was originally a serial and all the pieces were finally combined into Cold My Heart when they were finished, or whether it was originally published as a standalone book and has since been split into separate novellas. I wish this was made clear, as obviously I'm disappointed that I spent the money on books 2 and 3 to find out that I already owned and had read all the content. (Based on the release date and when I purchased Cold My Heart, I suspect that it has been split into separate books since the time I purchased and that if you were to purchase Cold My Heart now, you would not get the content included in these additional books.)

My best guess as to how you could tell if you already own this content: If you have read Cold My Heart and met Huw in your reading, you have already read the Oaken Door. If you have no idea who Huw is, this will be new content for you and well worth reading if you enjoyed book 1. It continues the story and develops the familiar characters and plotline, and ends leaving you wanting to know what happens next.

I enjoyed the flow of this instalment. It made for a light read with a quick passing of pages. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys time travel books.

This series keeps getting better with live breathing characters that I sometimes want to throttle, always a good sign because it means they are real. The plots are realistic and tautly contrived without being so insane that you need a scorecard to figure what's going on. And the time period is suitably grim without being hopeless. This author does not dump you into the pits of despair...... we have reality t o do that and don't need it in our leisure hours too. Highly recommended.

I am a huge fan of Ms. Woodbury's After Cilmeri series and thought to try this series as well. So glad I did! The Oaken Door picks up the pace from Cold My Heart and what a metaphor as the door to both Myrddin's and Nell's hardened hearts begin to open as they get to know each other and learn of their life long connection, suffer separation and refuse to give up on each other or their loyalty to Arthur. Other characters begin to evolve and yet newer, more fascinating ones are introduced. Ms. Woodbury's versatility in writing historical fiction is truly amazing!

I just completed this short series. The Oaken Door intrigued me enough to want to read the third book. I very much empathized with the main characters.

Another very good story from Sarah Woodbury. I am a huge fan of hers. my only tiny gripe is that the books are really short - would have preferred one large volume; however thoroughly enjoyed it

Im very disappointed that these books are sold as whole books. With so few pages they should be sold as Novellas and priced as such. As it is you pay for a book and only get a quater if it, it might be a saga but it falls short and who wants to bye 5 books to read 1 normal size one. What a shame.
