Having fun with my writing, and connecting with readers--that's what being a mystery writer means to me. And I LOVE what I do!

It began in 1985 when I started writing my first novel, without much clue how to go about it. Two years and 500 pages later, when I finally typed 'The End,' I felt a huge rush of excitement. That book took third place in the Southwest Writers competition and began making the rounds of publishers. I simply started writing my second, and then my third books.

After publishing ten of my Charlie Parker mysteries, I decided to branch out with a new cozy mystery series and I created the character of Samantha Sweet. One of the ways in which I earned a little extra pocket money during my high school years was to bake and decorate cakes--hence, a career for Samantha based on my own experiences.

In 2009 I switched publishers and was off on a new adventure, seeing all of my books made available for Kindle as e-books were just beginning to take off in the book world. It's been an exciting time in publishing--high points for me were reaching #1 on Amazon a few times and the Top 50 on the USA Today bestseller list. I'm loving the way e-books allow me to personally connect with readers all over the world via my newsletter and my website at connieshelton.com.

Besides writing the Charlie Parker and Samantha Sweet mysteries, Connie is an award-winning essayist. Her work has been published in both small and major anthologies, including Chicken Soup For the Writer's Soul, and her short stories have won several prizes. She has also been a commercial hot air balloon pilot and holds the women's world altitude record for size AX-4 balloons. She has been featured in Who's Who and The World Who's Who of Women.

She and her husband live in northern New Mexico with their two dogs, Daisy and Missy, who became stars of their own series of children's books.

Charlie Parker is back in the16th book in the Charlie Parker series it’s a happy time around the Parker family as brother Ron is getting married to Victoria Morgan. The Saturday of the wedding Charlie goes over to Victoria’s house to pick her up for the wedding the problem is that Victoria is not there and her house is in disarray. As this is going on we are whisked off to Miami Florida in 1978 and into the life of Juliette Mason a just out of high school student from Texas who moves down to Florida looking for work and she find it at Pro Builders Construction with owner Al Prolette and for the next few chapters we move back and forth between present day New Mexico and 1970’s Miami. (No Spoilers) but it all ties together in the end in a surprising way. I like this book a lot with all the twist and turns. Download this book it’s really good reading :Note: IF you are a reader of the Connie Shelton Charlie Parker and Samantha Sweet series both Sweet Sweets and Sheriff Beau Caldwell make cameo appearances and I think that is cool.

This is a great read. Of all the Charlie Parker books, I think this one is my favorite. If you're not familiar with this author she has two wonderful series' , Charlie Parker series and Samantha Sweet series. Both are exciting cozy mystery reads. For the ultimate reading enjoyment read the books in order, as the characters and mysteries keep getting better. You're missing a treat if you don't read both series. Looking forward to the next installment.

I like this series a lot but wouldn't describe it as A Girl and her Dog Cozy. It might be a cozy but the dog isn't very prominent. She used to take her first dog, Rusty, along everywhere and leave him in hot cars in New Mexico. Glad she doesn't do that with the new dog, Freckles.

The Charlie Parker mysteries are getting even better with each new installment. This one uses a plot device she used in her Alaska story where she moves from the past to the present seamlessly. This is really good because you don't catch on to what is happening until you are deep into the book. There is a Gone Girl vibe in the book but it is still Charlie that is the centerpiece. I really liked it. I love both her series and always look forward to new books in them.

This one has twists and turns that took me by surprise! I enjoy reading Connie's books, and this is no exception. I especially enjoyed the way she built the back story for Ron's bride-to-be. Cleverly written. Part of her Charlie Parker series - slightly better understood if you've read the rest of the series but definitely can stand alone, as well.

Something different for this series. Flashback story involved. Would have been a 5 star if the character of Drake hadn't once again been shunted to the background. Sometimes I wonder why the author bothered to have Charlie Parker marry, as she basically ignores that side of Charlie's life in the plots and the character of Drake rarely has any relevency. Despite that flaw, a good read, worth my time.
