Lost in Revery: Tales of the Dungeon Crawlers Volume 1 Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

For six lifelong friends, it was supposed to just be a simple game night. But when they break out a new, classic high-fantasy style game—half tabletop RPG, half dungeon-crawling board game, simultaneously familiar and unexplored—for a test run, they find themselves transported into the game’s setting, living the lives of their made-up characters, where the dangers, and the monsters, are deadly serious. Left with little choice but to jump headlong into their roles, Cordelia, Morgan, Jack, Eriko, Tamsin, and Tobias will have to become the heroes they were just pretending to be to stop a nightmare creature’s reign of terror… or find out if life and death in this fictional setting is as real as it seems. Ranger and cleric, barbarian and thief, bard and magician: they'll have to combine all their new-found abilities to stop a creeping evil and to survive in this strange new world.Previously available only in digital format, Lost in Revery collects the first three Dungeon Crawlers novellas in one place for the first time: "The Players Guide to Dungeon Crawling," "The Dungeoneer’s Bestiary," and "The Ghoul Slayer’s Guidebook." Join the Dungeon Crawlers on their three earliest adventures, and ask yourself: if you found yourself trapped in a game filled with magic and monsters… would you ever want to go home again?

Matthew Phillion is a writer, actor, and film director based in Salem, Massachusetts and the author of the Indestructibles Young Adult superhero adventure series, its spinoff, Echo and the Sea, and the newly launched Dungeon Crawlers series.

He calls himself a "recovering newspaper journalist" and occasional filmmaker and actor. Matt has appeared in feature films including the sci-fi romance Harvest Moon and the independent horror flick Livestock. He wrote and directed the 2013 romantic comedy Certainly Never, which was nominated at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival for five awards including best screenplay and best New England film. (Matt proudly notes that he was one of the actors not nominated for their roles, which he says is a sign he should stick to what he's good at.)

An active freelance writer, Phillion writes about healthcare, pop culture, and more. He enjoys adventuring with his sidekick, Watson the terrier mutt, and is also the official manservant to his very demanding cat Harley.

Top reviews from the United States

This book is three previously written novellas bundled into one package: Players Guide to Dungeon Crawling, Dungeoneer's Bestiary, and Ghoul Slayer's Guidebook.

It is nice to have them all together and the troy/plot flows very well between them.

The minor editing issues from the novellas seem to be cleaned up and I am enjoying re-reading this story about some every-day gamers thrown into a cursed table-top game (originally encountered in an Indestructables novella Roll for Initiative).

It is easy to recommend this to anyone who has played an RPG or lovers of well-written fantasy.

Before the recent litrpg craze, authors used to write these stories based on real or imaginary AD&D campaigns for a niche market of fellow gamers. I still remember some of those stories fondly.

I’m addicted to this series! The characters are well devoted and their quest is engaging. The series got me into playing D&D! Matthew Phillion has perfected the page-turner - his novels & novellas are some of my favorite reads.

This author writes amazing visit and vibrant stories. This, and all titles by this author are worth every penny, and more!

$7,99 is way too expensive for a 259 page eBook from an author writing in a new area. $2.99 is about right for a 259 page book! If you look, the author has several other books with only one or two reviews. Obviously he isn't selling his work at even a low price. He may have written some successful other books but that does not mean his changing his subject to dungeon crawling is is worth $7.99 for the first book in a new series. The author needs to prove his ability to write this type of book and that means .99 to $2.99 is a more reasonable price.
