Comedian Stephanie Renshaw hopes to finally get her big break in LA. A chance encounter lands her the perfect apartment close to the comedy clubs, but it comes with a catch: she needs a roommate to afford the rent.

Enter Rae Coleman, a former police officer working the door at one of the top comedy clubs. After getting injured in the line of duty and losing her job with the LAPD, Rae guards her wounded soul behind a tough exterior.

At first, the two clash horribly before a tentative friendship develops. Bit by bit, Steph manages to break through the walls Rae has built around her.

But Steph has never been in a relationship, preferring casual flings, and Rae isn’t sure she’s ready to be happy again. Will they find the courage to open themselves up to love?

This sweet, slow-burn romance was a real treat. The characters we very likeable, had greet chemistry, and had to overcome deep rooted issues before recognizing their ability to love. Rae's adapting and modifying her routines and actions, and the struggles with her limitations were well written. I feel that this novel will be enlightening for someone that has never considered what life would be like for a person that has limitations. At the same time, it might inspire others that struggle with their own limitations to keep striving and adapting for their best quality of life.

This story is a sweet love story about two women who are both definitely nut looking for a relationship. However, we don't always have control over our heart once it decides who it wants and loves. The story is told well and keeps you entranced. Well done!

I didn't know what to expect going into this book. But I actually really enjoyed it. From a fake relationship to get a conveniently located apartment to for ever one true love. All the ups and downs they worked through together was also a difference from the norm.

I have been in the same place that the two MC were in, searching for an apartment that was not to far from work but not a dump. It was great to see them figure out how to live together without turning into roommates from hell! The love story had me fiercely rooting for a good outcome without the losing themselves in the process. Good book!

I loved the continuation of Steph's story but I really, really loved Rae. Steph wanted so badly for her family to accept her being a stand up comic. Rae wanted so badly to forget about what happened that ended her career as a cop. Steph wanted no part of being in a relationship but life plays tricks sometimes. This was just a perfect romance. The characters were so alive and endearing. It comes down to being honest about one's self in order to move forward. I very highly recommend this book. It is typical "Jae" so that means it's wonderful. I also liked catching up with Claire and Lana. Many, many thanks to the author for yet another amazing read!

Jae has written an engaging story of two women who pretend to be a couple to secure a good apartment in L.A.

Steph is a child of wealthy, professional parents, outgoing, confident, assertive, and bi, happy to enjoy hookups with no intention of being in a long term monogamous relationship. She’s also has a deadline looming — to get her big break as a comic before her 30th birthday.

Rae is an introverted, serious, lesbian grieving multiple significant losses, including the end of a 15-year relationship.

Rae had been an LAPD patrol officer, but a shooting incident cost Rae her partner and her position, so she’s now working security at a comedy club, which is where she and Steph intersect.

Despite their significant differences, Steph and Rae’s roommate arrangement gives the two women opportunities to become friends and possibly more.

Slow and steady. Truly enjoy the story, the development of the relationship and the growth of the characters through it.

The story of Rae and her accident was a different twist. This is relatable for some us with tragedy in our life’s. It shows that it can be difficult but with the right person you can overcome the tough stuff.

The story was rather interesting, I mean the whole comic journey and the Rae thing were fascinating subjects to bring up and got me reflecting a lot.

And the friction between these two were so delightful, I loved it. Like, they on their own were great characters but together they're fire! And things happened on their own accord, no one jumping the gun too soon. Really, great coupling.
And Imma add, Ray giving a vibe of being a bit rough around the edges made it even better to me.

I'd love to meet them again in the future

Rae is serious, dependable, reliable, and hurting like hell. Steph is none of those things, but LA's extortionate rent prices throw them together.
I really enjoyed Rae's character, and the way that Steph gradually earned her trust.
Nice to see a butch character that has depth & more to her than just a 6pack. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The blind leading the blind

I'm gonna start thinking of Jae as the Jane Austen of our times.
This book has everything that I always liked about reading: opposites attraction, misunderstandings, witty dialogues, dephs of characters.....

I just fell in love with it.

If the title wasn't already there, I could think of "the blind side" as a new one.

The blind side, because both characters are so deeply embracing their "masks", trying not to reveal who they really are, in fear of not being understood, that the "normal eye" won't see them the way they really are.

The nowadays usual lack of communication, making each of us build a wall and a copying mechanism to protect us from being hurt.

Rae always trying to be tough and never showing a moment of weakness and Steph using comedy and self irony is just for the same reason: fear of being judged.

But what if... "the blind leads the blind" to that both of them are "seen".

Thanks Jae for this book and for making me walk through the house and outside covering one of my eyes, wondering how Rae would experience the world. I fell so much in love with her character, i felt as protective of her as Steph.
