When the home grown famous self help guru comes to town to do a seminar there are many opposed to him coming to town. When he is murdered at the seminar everything points to Coco as the guilty party. Will Logan and his fellow officers be able to solve the murder before Coco loses everything? This is a fun read.

I like these characters for the most part and the hometown feel. Luke could be less ineffectual and a finer example of law enforcement, but he is likable. The lead, Coco, consistently finding dead bodies is overworked, and her arrogant disregard for the law as well as her superior attitude toward law enforcement is beginning to grate. The mystery, while not particularly complex, yields surprising moments. I've enjoyed a couple of this author's series which makes me hopeful for this one.

Coco Is In Serious Trouble

Coco is catering an event for some kind of guru, she doesn't get why people are believing what he is saying. She decides to get more baked goods ready. When the guy comes up and gives her a hard time. She is really upset about it. When one of the event people tell her he wants a water and he wants her to bring it to him. She goes to give him his drink, she finds him dead in the room. Coco calls Logan to tell him what happened, she goes to put all her goods out again. Logan tells her to leave her stuff and he would come to speak with her later.
Logan informs her that she is the prime suspect in the murder. It appears the cupcake he was eating, killed him. Logan explains she must keep a low profile and let him investigate the crime. He doesn't want it to look like she is covering up the crime.
Coco can only stay on the sidelines for long, she decides she can't wait to for others to clear her. Coco teams up with an unlikely ally to try to figure out who did the guy in. He has a lot more enemies than what she knew. Coco is walking a fine line with her looking into the crime. Everything becomes a mess because of it.
Will Coco be able to uncover who really poisoned the guy or will she be the one arrested or worse killed

This book was good, there are a lot of different suspects in this story. You aren't sure of who did the deed until the end of the book. Enjoy the dynamic of Coco and Logan, hoping to see this budding relationship take a step forward.

Book 3 in the Mad Batter series featuring Coco, her Mad Batter Bakery and her wide circle of eccentric, but extremely loyal, friends and customers.
I adore cozy mysteries, and look forward to a new twist on a familiar theme, and "Pastries and Puzzles" delivers! I enjoyed every morsel.
The mystery over a poisoned cupcake is action packed and full of horrible decisions that will make you laugh (and cringe) until the end.
I will be home baking and awaiting the next book.
