Even immortal beings need a break. Mermaid Alexis Silver can tolerate only so many years living primarily on dry land before it's time for a nice long swim.

While she loves her work as a private investigator, a few nail-biter jobs in a row call for some time off. So, she leaves everything behind and dives into the ocean, planning to spend a month cruising around Central America.

Curiosity pulls her ashore soon after arriving in Panama, leading to a not-so-chance meeting with a vampire that thrusts her into otherworldly chaos. It's challenging to work a case when all her possessions are thousands of miles away, but not having a phone, money, or a comfortable outfit is the least of her problems.

Though she may not be able to stop the dark masters' plans entirely, she might be able to save one guy... that is, if he doesn't kill her first.

Silver Crucible is the fourth book in the Alexis Silver series of underwater-themed mysteries and adventures, and is part of the broader Vampire for Hire world.

    Originally from South Amboy NJ, Matthew has been creating science fiction and fantasy worlds for most of his reasoning life.     Matthew is an avid gamer, a recovered WoW addict, developer of two custom tabletop RPG systems, and a fan of anime, British humour, and intellectual science fiction that questions the nature of humanity, reality, life, and what might happen after it.

Can she help him get free from his Dark Master? Is it even possible without him being destroyed as well? Why does she feel the need to help some random vampire? Will she learn more of Elisabeth's plans? Can Elisabeth be stopped? Why can't Alexis seem to ever stay out of trouble?
