Opposites find their missing piece, in this emotional and sweet country romance.

Rosemary Brunner doesn’t like change. She’s been living on the family farm where she grew up for her entire life. Sure, her friends worry she’s slowly heading towards full-fledged hermit status, but she likes it just fine, thanks. Although, she thinks, maybe she should consider a big dog to bark at strangers knocking on her door late at night. Who wanders up a stranger’s driveway at this time of evening?

Stephen Beckett doesn’t like the dark. His stay in the backwoods outside the village of Catoctin Creek, Maryland, has lasted entirely too long. The moment he can get back to his life in NYC, he’ll say a little prayer of thanks to the city that never sleeps. Of course, right now, he can’t even find his way back to his late father’s house. Lost, again, on these winding country roads! It’s enough to make a man long for a late-night subway home.

Rosemary doesn’t expect her life to change the moment she opens the door to a lost stranger. And Stephen never expected to lose his heart to a shy woman with a spitfire temper. But when these two meet on the front porch of Rosemary’s farmhouse, they know their lives will never be the same.

And now that they’ve been thrown together, there are a thousand reasons for them to split apart. Stephen wants to develop the neighboring farm; Rosemary wants her elderly neighbors to stay next door forever. Stephen plans to return to the city; Rosemary never leaves her farm. They say opposites attract…but no one ever says what holds them together. Is love really strong enough to bridge the gap between this country girl and city boy?

Readers Say:

“Characters that are finely crafted (par for Reinert's work) and a lively plot. I think anyone who's been in love can identify with the vulnerability it brings.” - Dale, Amazon Review

“Enjoyable storyline of two slightly lost souls figuring out life and love. Descriptive, emotionally charged writing that draws the reader into each scene. Believable characters with distinct personalities and great banter.” - Bookzilla, Amazon Review

“Love, horses and a beautiful setting make this book a real winner.” - Norman, Amazon Review

Natalie Keller Reinert is the author of multiple series including The Eventing Series, Ocala Horse Girls, and Briar Hill Farm. Her novel The Hidden Horses of New York is the winner of the America Horse Publications Best Fiction Award and The Equus Film & Literary Festival Best Horse Racing Fiction Award; her novel Turning for Home was a finalist for the Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award.

Originally from Hagerstown, Maryland, Reinert grew up in Central Florida and now lives in North Florida, where she writes full-time and enjoys the company of her family, horses, and cat. She’s always working on at least three new projects, is probably plotting a book festival or a new kind of magazine, and co-hosts the award-winning equestrian humor podcast Adulting With Horses Podcast, along with fellow author Heather Wallace.

In addition to Reinert’s interconnected equestrian series (which some fans have nicknamed “the Ocala-verse” since so many series are set in and around the horse-rich town of Ocala, Florida) she also enjoys writing romantic comedy and literary fiction. Her novel You Must Be This Tall explores the world of theme parks and fandom with a richly imagined theme park called America the Beautiful as its setting, while her romantic comedies take readers on swoony journeys through New York City, Palm Springs, and beyond.

I really enjoyed this book and actually the next one in the series also. As always the horse details are spot on. This book took a little different direction then her other equestrian books, but that was fine. It was an interesting setting and story. I am finding that the male characters in most of the author’s books are almost too sensitive and nice to be true and the female characters are kind of a real pain and I am finding them annoying. They sure have a lot if hang ups. Overall though I still love to read her books and will continue to do so. Looking forward to more.

I don't usually read romance novels, but I really like Natalie Reinert's equestrian books so I decided to give this book a try. I figured there would be some horse connection--and there is. As it turned out, I was totally entertained by the story, which has characters that are finely crafted (par for Reinert's work) and a lively plot. I think anyone who's been in love can identify with the vulnerability it brings. These two people--an unlikely match--have a lot of trouble with mixed signals and second-guessing their feelings. I'm eagerly awaiting the new books in Reinert's various equestrian series, but this romance has been a rewarding read, and I will definitely read the other books in the series.

This was a clean small town beach read. Although it technically had closure, I really felt down reading this whole sad saga. I finished the book depressed, a half hour later, I am still in a funk. I have not been treated with shame, like the ladies in the book. This is just not a happy read.

I enjoy reading this author’s books because she knows horses. Both the H/h had a coming of age story about their life.

This book was calming but some would say it was slow. Both the H/h were mature and reasonable. The descriptions of the country and horses put you in the moment.

The characters were developed well. I found the heroine a little alarming how introverted she was. Overall I liked it. I gave it a 3.5 rounded to 4 stars.

She was 29, living alone on a beautiful farm, caring for rescue horses. Her parents had been killed in a crash. She was seriously introverted. Her supportive neighbours desperately wanted to retire to Florida. Kevin bought their farm, planning, with his New York money-making ways, to convert their beautiful farm into many units, which sent her over the edge.
I loved the way the situation was resolved. God had a plan in the whole mess.
