Review
"This book is an amazing and fantastic book about the "art of persuasion". I loved it! I totally recommend it to everyone, because everyone uses persuasion in one way or another in their daily lives to communicate with other people. You can apply it to your interactions with your spouse, kids, clients, employees, friends and so many other people to persuade them to do what you want.
I just finished reading it and I am so excited about all the things I learned. I can now identify how other people may try to persuade me about things, and I am now clearly aware of a number of techniques on this subject.
I really enjoyed the book, which is packed with everyday examples and explanations related to all the techniques and methods that the author introduces us to." - Amazon Reviewer
Good
"There are many books written on the this subject. This is one of the better most I've read. One thing, it does not really heavily on redundancy to fill pages. The pages are filled with substance.
It also talks about important principles of cognitive and social psychology, referencing very good studies in both fields and then applying them in real world scenarios.
There's nothing in this book that highly original, but it does bring ideas together in a clear and concise manner. I'd recommend this book to anyone who has trouble influencing people." - Amazon Reviewer
Very Informative
"This book was formatted really well. There is much information on the subject. I learned many things. Still trying to implement them, but I did get a lot out of the book. I thought it was written well and organized well. It was easy to follow. Great book!" - Amazon Reviewer

If you want to become far more influential in all areas of your life then you need to read How to Make People Do What You Want by James W. Williams." - Amazon Reviewer
Useful survey of psychological literature dealing with persuasion and its techniques
"A useful discussion for readers who want to understand persuasion and how they might become more persuasive. I often found myself nodding along with the points being made. The author opens the discussion with an example from his university days when he was not able to persuade his marketing class group to use his idea of how to create a campaign for what I would call running shoes and he calls trainers. Along the way he touches on NLP or neurolinguistic programming, mirroring, body language and other persuasive techniques. Most of his observations appear consistent with my experience. He also briefly considers the possibility of the dark side use of these techniques that are being outlined. I have read a great deal about this topic from the point of view of sales, sales training, and persuasion, so I wasn't expecting to learn much from this book, but I did as he presented some information that I hadn't considered before in the area of priming your persuasive target with ideas and words that lay the groundwork for getting them to take the actions that you want them to take. A very worthwhile read." - Amazon Reviewer
Great review of Useful Tools
"This book builds on methods to engage rapport, agreement and success. With a wide range of tools and tips that are covered, it offers a sound understanding of some key brain patterns such as priming, body language such as use of posture, and relationships such as the use of social norms. While some of these principles were not new to me, the author did a good job of making principles come alive, helping me to feel more confident using them in the future. Good reading that left me wanting more." - Amazon Reviewer

Its not easy to be an introvert and speak in public, or speak to anyone and convince them on a certain subject. This book harnesses what advice is best and consolidates it to tell you the facts. The main one in my opinion being confident. If you can grapple your confidence or lack of it, you will reach new heights you never though you could. It further breaks you down and explains many reasons why your not as successful. It helps find the negativity and get rid of it so you come into any conversation ready and without a doubt that your point will come across. The book in my opinion is amazing. It may give you facts about sales and persuasion that you may not like but at the end its all true and its used every day, whether people like it or not. Life is not for the faint of heart, and especially for those that cant stand up and state their thoughts and opinions with conviction and confidence. Great job!

"You can bring the horses to water but you can't make them drink."
In other words, you can, for example, (1) put your product in the store, (2) create your best pizza, (3) state your opinion but it doesn't mean (1) people are going to buy it, (2) they're going to like it or (3) they'll agree with you.
So i struggled a bit with the "daring" and hyped title but I have to give the author credit for such a bold claim.
Then the author writes things like:
"It wasn't until after spending many years in a career in sales and marketing and having learned about the fundamentals of human psychology and the art of persuasion that I started to learn that communicating effectively is a mastery that is learned and practiced. It's a skill that's honed over the years, not something that we just have."
The author keeps winning me over with these statements wherein resides the ideas of:
1.) We're not born knowing how to persuade
2.) But we can learn it
3.) We can get better if we practice
4.) Especially if we have a good teacher.
The author is a good teacher. :-) This book is his classroom. If you'd like to learn how to better use persuasion in your personal and professional life, this is an excellent place to do so.

Self-confidence is severely undervalued. Not to say we don't think confidence does much, but in fact, it opens WAY more doors when you use that confidence to build up your own storyline. In all aspects of life, we will need other people to help us, whether that be professionally or personally, we sometimes need of other people. And you catch more flies with honey, as they say.
Knowing how to speak to people and presenting yourself as someone who is trustworthy and confident will help your career goals, your relationship goals, and in turn, positively affect your life.
He begins by quoting Wittgenstein: “At the end of reason, comes persuasion.”
If he takes this as an endorsement of the art of persuasion, that is not quite what the philosopher intended. The quote is a reference to the limitations of logic and mathematics; these are tools that can show us how to build a rocket to take us to the moon, but they cannot tell us whether we want to go to the moon. This is the difference between values and facts.
We discover facts by empirical observation; for example, that oil painting is 3’ by 4’ in dimension. Anyone who doubts me can measure it for himself. But if I say “that painting is beautiful,” it is a personal subjective observation about which others may differ. Some may think the same panting “tacky” or “uninspired” or just “not for me.”
This book focuses on values, specifically how to get others to share your personal prejudices or take actions beneficial to you. The author writes: "You cannot get through life without persuading people … you persuade people to go on dates, get a pet, move in together, get married, and have kids. You make friends and take vacations, choose movie, and read books… [and] in professional life, you’re selling to your customers, promoting and pitching your ideas to your bosses, surviving employee evaluations.”
He continues: “It doesn’t matter what you want to achieve in life; persuasion is the way you’re going to make it happen. […] I take a product, no matter what it is, and send a message to a customer that says, ‘Buy this product and it will make your life better in x-amount of ways.’ … It’s up to you to decide whether you believe in the messages” […] “…in the real world, anyone can sell you anything or influence you into believing anything. It’s all in how it’s presented, all of which I’m going to describe in the following chapters.”
The focus of what follows is on the importance of such things as exuding confidence and believing in yourself; (“By adopting a self-confident mindset, you’ll see incredible changes in the way people see you, hear you, and perceive your messages.” ) And the need to develop good social skills; his company once lost a client to a rival because , “The bosses [of the rival company and the client] played golf together every weekend.”
To his credit, he does borrow a token of sincerity from Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends and Influence People. This is a classic work that I personally recommend, as it advocates learning to listen as well as talk, to think of what the other person wants rather than just what you want, and the virtue of taking a genuine interest in others. Carnegie’s book is available on Amazon.
In contrast to Carnegie, this author promises the reader:
“Choosing what takeout to order and trying to persuade your partner to get pizza over pasta is small fish compared to what you’ll be able to achieve once you’ve finished this book.”
Of course, we all wish others would do what we want, but it is a part of growing up to accept that other people have minds of their own and differences in taste that should be respected. This book embraces blatant selfishness to a degree I’m not comfortable about. While I might get my way more often following his advice, I’m not sure I’d much like myself.
I give the book three stars because others who don’t have my personal reservations may find the advice given here effective.
