Many Lives Kindle Edition

The RADA trained actress and star of '80s blockbuster soap Dynasty reveals the highs and lows of her 40+ year career in this extraordinarily candid memoir

Best known for her incarnation as the smouldering super-bitch Sable Colby on
Dynasty, Stephanie Beacham’s life has not always been glamour and glitz. Born with just 40% hearing, the young Stephanie had to overcome her deafness in order to make it in a profession where hearing meant everything.

She struggled as a young actress, went through the pain and the heartache of a divorce, raised her children as a single-parent, and overcame a health scare which nearly killed her in her mid-thirties.

And it would be this near death experience that would send Stephanie on what she describes as a ‘spiritual adventure’ to arm her with both the tools and knowledge she believes she needed to propel her through the rest of her life.

A thoroughly, enjoyable book, and not what I expected to read from an autobiography. Miss Beacham is truly classy. She doesn't "bash" celebrities in her book and displays a genuine decorum in her style and behavior. A wonderful read from a talented, gifted and classy woman!

REALLY um, let's say, "She's the British Shirley MacLaine BUT she's boring and it goes nowhere." The book jumps from time to time. She bounces all over the place and nowhere interesting enough to finish this book I got for $2.

For anyone watching prime time television in the 1980's the name Stephanie Beacham immediately comes to mind. In 1985 the #1 series on network TV, "Dynasty", spun off a series of its own called "The Colby's" featuring several big-name Hollywood stars including Charlton Heston, Barbara Stanwyck and Katherine Ross. However, it was a British actress named Stephanie Beacham who made the show and stole every scene she was in with her co-stars, no small feat when your acting alongside the likes of Ben-Hur himself.

In this wonderful and excellent biography Stephanie finally releases her life story, a life filled with both huge success as an actress and a personal life that had its many ups and downs. Stephanie was born deaf in one ear and with the other she only has 40% hearing. Growing up in England she was taunted by her school mates, but was determined to have as normal a life as possible. When she grew up she became a well-known stage actress in London and even started to do films with greats like Marlon Brondo (for which she appeared topless) and Ava Gardner. However, it was her role as Sable Colby that she will forever be remembered for not only did she give the greatest performance by an actress on a prime time soap (this according to legendary soap critic Christopher Schemering), but she gave one of the most memorable. No one can foget her cloths, her high hair and the way she would snarl the words "slut" and "tramp" when referring to her onscreen sister Frankie.

Although "The Colby's" bombed in the Nielsens in America (no doubt becasue of its dreadful Thursday night timeslot opposite "Cheers") Stephanie reprised her role on the final season of "Dynasty" in 1988 where she played against another diva Joan Collins. In "Many Lives" Stephanie finally reveals that she and Joan got along splendidly and are life-long friends who work together now and then.

"Many Lives" has not yet received an American release (it has only come out in Britain), but I would suggest that if your a fan of Stephanie's obtain a copy. It is worth every cent and you will not be able to put it down.

I was thrilled to see that Stephanie Beacham wrote her autobiography and just had to get it! This is far from your typical actor-bio, starting with "I was born, these are all my films and here is all the dirty little secrets that just have to be told". Stephanie's book is refreshingly different. She speaks her thoughts on many subjects close to her heart: religion, work, friendship, and responsibilities, among others. As you are reading, you feel like you've just sat down to a pleasant conversation with her and really gain an understanding of her-far more than in the "usual" autobiography. To be just a little like other bios, there is a list of Stephanie's film,TV and theatre work. If you love Stephanie and her work, this book is a must!

It was interesting to read about all of the famous name that the author encountered and it is interesting read about actor's struggles and how the theatre functioned to a certain extent, But the book ended abruptly. I had not realized that I had come to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting autobiography of a greatactress and beautiful lady

Iv always liked Stephanie and have tried to catch her on dvd in most of her programmes. My favourite role was Stephanie as Rose Miller in the 1980s series Tenko. Im always glad when I see her pop up on television such as Coronation Street a few years ago and the comedy, Trollied, in which she played a Northern supermarket manager brilliantly, showing her range, as her accent was far removed from her usual cut glass speaking voice. Anyway, I very much enjoyed this autobiography in which Stephanie shares her outlook on life and it is quite philosophical in parts, and gives a great insight into the lady herself, as well she discusses her various roles on tv and theatre. I would highly recommend.

Although I enjoyed reading this book, it was very disjointed and all over the place. Jumping forwards and backwards then forward again. I like to read things that run in order From beginning to end.
