WINDSTONE is the name of a fictional house on Bellevue Avenue in the famed mansion district of Newport, Rhode Island, where much of the action takes place. Told with humor as well as seriousness, it is primarily a story of the various kinds of healing people are able to find at different stages in life. The contemporary story is set amidst flashbacks of English and American social history of the mid-20th century.

About the Author

Mike Mitchell is a native St. Louisan who has spent most of his adult life in New York and Rhode Island, with numerous long stretches in England and France. His first novel, WINDSTONE, is an adaptation of his screenplay Better Late Than Never (Originally entitled In The Blue Room).
Primarily known for having had an exceptionally diverse career in the performing arts--he has performed in major venues across the United States, as well as on Broadway, the Metropolitan Opera House and the New York State Theatre at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the music Center in Los Angeles, and in three productions of "Great Performances" on PBS. In recent years, he has become known as one of the country's foremost teachers of vocal technique, both in his private studio in New York City, and for the Syracuse University Tepper Semester. His book ALL STAR CAST:The Memoirs of an Unknown will be available in the Autumn of 2020.

VERY engaging storyline and relatable characters with emotional resonance. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this up, but I’m very glad I did! The writing is erudite and witty, but not pushy or over the top. Mike is able to draw you in to the brief world of these characters and sometimes it was only after the fact that I realized I had laughed or tensed up while reading well into the evening hours. I would highly recommend this book-will definitely read it again.

Whilst this was not the kind of book I would usually choose I did enjoy it greatly. The writing is vivid, the dialogue natural and the whole work flows with a pace that feels contemporary - even though, in some way, it also harks back to more classic times. Neither too heavy nor inconsequentially light I found it a really good read which passed all too quickly. Thanks are due to the author.
